Best of the Genea-Blogs - 22 to 28 January 2012

...
Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for the genealogy carnivals, or other meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Monday, Monday, So Good To Me: SLIG Day One, Tuesday's Treasures: SLIG Day Two, Wednesday's wonders: SLIG Day Three!, Thursday's Thrills: SLIG Day Four, and Friday's Faves: SLIG Day Five! by Susan Farrell Bankhead on Susan's Genealogy Blog.  Susan's at SLIG and is sharing her classes with us.

*  Genealogists - How Our Brains Assimilate Information by Susan LeBlanc on the Gopher Genealogy blog.  An interesting post, and interesting question at the end.  do you know how you best assimilate information and communicate it to others?

*  Finding Deeds In Suffolk County, Massachusetts - Part 1, Online Deeds and Part 2- Deed Books by Marian Pierre-Louis on the New England House Historian blog.  Marian is the expert on this, and these posts outline the process to access deeds in this county.  It's complicated...

*  Welcome to GARP by Steven Danko on Steve's Genealogy Blog.  Steve writes about genealogical professionals, licensing, occupational closure and more.  Interesting study.

*  Changes I Have Made in Analyzing my Data by Terri O'Connell on the Finding Our Ancestors blog. Terri has adopted some new research strategies and shares them with us.

*  Case closed? Not yet… by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogist blog.  Judy highlights the evidence found on a birth certificate, and notes that it alone is not proof.

*  My Top Five Photo Sharing Websites by Stefani Twyford on the Legacy Multimedia blog.  Stefani reviews five photo sharing sites, listing features that are free and fee.  I needed this!

*  Two Important Things Our Ancestors Knew About Community by Marian Pierre-Louis on the Marian's Roots and Rambles blog.  Amen!

Several genea-bloggers wrote weekly pick posts and news summary posts this week, including:

*  Fab Finds in Genealogy for the Week of 22 January 2012 by GenuinelyLAF on the 1Ancestry2LittleTime blog.

*  Monday Morning Mentions by Lynn Palermo on The Armchair Genealogist.

*  Ruth's Recommendations by Ruth Blair on The Passionate Genealogist blog.

*    Genealogy Round Up, January 26 by Megan Smolenyak on the Megan Smolenyak Smolenyak's Roots World blog

*  Follow Friday: This Week's Favorite Finds by Jen on the Climbing My Family Tree blog.

*  Genealogy News Corral - Jan 23-27 by Diane Haddad on the Genealogy Insider blog.

*  Bi-Weekly Rewind by Apple on the Apple's Tree blog.

*  Follow Friday Gems - 01-27-12 by Deb Ruth on the Adventures in Genealogy blog.

*  Notable Genealogy Blog Posts, 29 January 2012 by Michael Hait on the Planting The Seeds blog.

I encourage readers to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Google Reader, RSS feed or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1150 genealogy bloggers using Google Reader, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
