Best of the Genea-Blogs - 28 April to 4 May 2013

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for the genealogy carnivals, or other meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  OGS 2013 Conference: Day One and Day Two by Shelley Bishop on the A Sense of Family blog.  Shelley shares her OGS Conference experiences - well done!

*  Did Your Ancestors Reboot by Kerry Scott on the Clue Wagon blog.  Kerry finds an ancestor who was in prison, then lived an exemplary life.

*  Principles to Perfect Your Researching Skills by Melanie on the ObituariesHelp.org/Blog.  Melanie lists excellent principles about kinship, and how they can help your research.

*  An Interesting Question With a Number of Issues and Questions to Ask Yourself Before Declaring a Brick Wall by James Tanner on the Genealogy's Star blog.  James responds to a commenter about a brick wall problem in Georgia.

*  FamilySearch - Sorry -  No Cigar by Kenneth R. Marks on The Ancestor Hunt blog.  Kenneth looked at the FamilySearch Content Submission Agreement and didn't like what he saw.

*  A Technologically Advanced Resource for Geography: The David Rumsey Map Collection by Michael Leclerc on the Mocavo Genealogy Blog.  Michael highlights some of the more advanced features of the David Rumsey website.

*  Google+ Communities and Genealogy (Part 1) and (Part 2) by Russ Worthington on the A Worthington Weblog blog.  Russ describes how Google+ communities and YouTube can be used for genealogy collaboration and education.

*  News From Nutfield by Heather Rojo on the Nutfeild Genealogy blog.  Heather updates her readers on her activities and highlights of the last two months. busy lady, great blog.

*  10 Unexpected Things I Learned Doing Family Research by Ellie on the Ellie's Ancestors blog.  Ellie shares some of her surprises.

*  Miracles by Heather Doyle on the Of Trees and Ink blog.  Talk about serendipity, I got chills reading this.  Way to go, Heather! I can hardly wait for the next installment.

*  Part 2 of "This is Frustrating" by Melvin J. Collier on the Roots Revealed blog.  Mel is working on his 2nd great-grandfather's identity - I love stories like this!

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1350 genealogy bloggers using Google Reader, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
