Best of the Genea-Blogs - 16 to 22 June 2013

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Why Do I Need to Source My Records? by Anne Gillespie Mitchell on the Ancestry Reference Desk blog.  Anne explains why, with a good example.

*  Privacy and History On a Collision Course? by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogist blog.  Always, it seems!

*  How To Use Facebook For Genealogy by Melanie on the ObituariesHelp.org Blog.  Excellent ideas by Melanie on how genealogists can use Facebook effectively.

*  Twenty Years From Now I'll be Done by Michael John Neill on the Rootdig.com blog.  Probably not...

*  Remember Summer, and Making Time to Remember One New Thing by Denise Levenick on The Family Curator blog.  Denise shares some summer memories, and suggests we all learn one new thing this summer.

*  Treasure Chest Thursday~39 Years, William A. Purvis Timeline, Final Chapter by Charlie Purvis on the Carolina Family Roots blog.  Charlie has worked on this brick wall a long time, and has done a great job.  He wants comments about his work and any ideas for further work.

*  What I Learned From the R.I. State Censuses of 1865 and 1875 by Diane Boumenot on the One Rhode Island Family blog.  A Lot...and she visited the Rhode Island State Archives too.

^  The Dining Room Table and Other Genealogical Goals by Diana on the Moments In Time, A Genealogy Blog.  Diana went to Jamboree and went home enthused to pile stuff on her dining room table, and more.

*  Where to Put Proof Conclusions - Person Note or Fact/Event Note? - Neither! by Bart Brenner on the Brenner Genealogy blog.  Bart chose to add them to his TNG web page wiki - interesting choice.  Great example, too.

*  "Good Enough" Citations? We Can Do Better by Harold Henderson on the Midwestern Microhistory blog.  Harold takes issue with some of James Tanner's comments.

These genea-bloggers wrote weekly pick posts and news summary posts this week:

*  Monday Recap for June 17, 2013 by Amanda on the Geni Blog.

*  Follow Friday - Favorites for June 21, 2013 by Heather Kuhn Roelker on the Leaves For Trees blog.

*  Follow Friday - Fab Finds for June 21, 2013 by Jana Last on Jana's Genealogy and Family History Blog.

*  Genealogy News Corral, June 17-21 by Diane Haddad on the Genealogy Insider blog.

*  New Stories and Blog Posts for Genealogists, June 21, 2013 by Michael Leclerc on the Mocavo Genealogy Blog.

*  Friday Finds - 06-21-13 by Julie Cahill Tarr on the GenBlog blog.

*  Saturday Serendipity, June 22, 2013 by John D. Tew on the Filiopietism Prism blog.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Google Reader, RSS feed or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1350 genealogy bloggers using Google Reader, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
