Best of the Genea-Blogs - 11 to 17 January 2015

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Cutting Edge Genealogy ColloquiumDelving Into DNA: SLIG Day OneI Fell Down the Rabbit Hole: SLIG Day Two;  Turning on the Light! SLIG Days 3, 4, & 5; Endings and Beginnings: SLIG 2015 and 2016 Line Up! by Susan Bankhead on the Brick Wall Genealogy blog.  Susan describes the colloquium and her SLIG days.

*  SLIG: Day .5;  SLIG: Day 2 by Jill Morelli on the Genealogy Certification: My Personal Journal blog.  Jill describes her three activities before and during the SLIG institute this week.

*  Why Are There Blue "Silver" Books? by Heather Wilkinson Rojo on the Nutfield Genealogy blog.  Heather discusses the Mayflower Descendants books, and why the covers are different colors.

*  Outside the Box -- RootsTech Version by Janet Hovorka on The Chart Chick blog.  Janet highlights the sessions in the Expo Hall at RootsTech featuring Lisa Cooke, Maureen Taylor, Allison Dolan and Janet - these are not on the official RootsTech or FGS programs.  This should be fun!

*  Don't Forget About Those Half-Brothers and Sisters by Wayne Shepheard on the Discover Genealogy blog.  Wayne makes excellent points here about relationships and names.

*  New GeneaGem Discovered: BLM Website by Linda Stufflebean on the Empty Branches on the Family Tree blog.  Linda highlights features of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) General Land Office (GLO) website.

*  Which Are the Best Genealogy Websites For You? by Lisa Louise Cooke on the Lisa Louise Cooke's Genealogy Gems blog.  Lisa answers a reader's question, highlighting her own needs and experience.

*  Citations: How Much Is Enough? by Elizabeth Shown Mills on the Evidence Explained QuickTips blog.  Elizabeth provides guidelines for us to use when citing sources.

*  Here's Why Your Family Which Has "No Relation" to My Family, Is In My Family Tree by Denise Knapp on the Roots and Branches blog.  Denise takes issue with a recent Geneapalooza cartoon strip, and describes why she has your relative in her tree.

*  The Mentors by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogist blog.  Judy names and thanks those who have helped her throughout her careers.

*  I Have a Treasure by Elise Ann Wormuth on the Living in the Past blog.  Elise received a family treasure - an amazing find.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1550 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.

Randy, I wonder if you get my infrequent blogs concerning how Clooz can be used to solve problems.

I wish I had time to write more, but other duties frequently over-ride my blogging. Thanks for considering us.

Randy, thanks very much for the pointer to Wayne Shepheard's blog. The blog post you link to has given me some clues about a problem I am working on.
