Best of the Genea-Blogs - April 5 to 11, 2015

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Linkpendium: The Best Genealogy Link Site That You're Not Using by Amy Johnson Crow on the No Story Too Small blog.  Try the search engine too.

*  Saying Goodbye Too Soon by Cheryl Hudson Passey on the Worldwide Genealogy ~ A Genealogical Collaboration blog.  We all need to pray for Cheri's family.

*  So Your Speaker Cancelled, Now What? by Rorey Cathcart on the FGS Voice blog.  This is every society's nightmare - Rorey offers suggestions.

*  Expanding Our View of What is Possible in Genealogical Research by James Tanner on the Genealogy's Star blog.  James thinks that the old way of doing genealogical research is gone.

*  Testing Ancestry's Amazing "New Ancestor" DNA Claim and Dissecting AncestryDNA Circles and New Ancestors by Roberta J. Estes on the DNAeXplained - Genetic Genealogy blog.  Roberta did something neat to test the claims.

*  The Future of Genealogy - 6 Predictions by Louis Kessler on Louis Kessler's Behold Genealogy blog.  Louis looks into his crystal ball - I like the visions.

*  Historical Newspaper Research - Lesson One - Where by Kenneth R. Marks on The Ancestor Hunt blog.  Kenneth explains how to find where a specific newspaper can be located.

*  FamilySearch's Discovery Center: My Family's Fun With Family History by Duncan Kuehn on the GenealogyBank Blog.  Duncan took her three kids to the Discovery Center and lived to tell us about it.

*  Introducing Thomas MacEntee, Guest Genealogist by Lorine McGinnis Schulze on the Olive Tree Genealogy Blog.  Lorine interviews Thomas.

*  Bringing Your Ancestors To Life by Janet Few on the Worldwide Genealogy ~ A Genealogical Collaboration blog.  Janet highlights several of the difficult tasks faced in past centuries.

*  3 Powerful Ways Obituaries Can Help You Expand Your Family Tree by Greg McMurdle on the FamilySearch Blog.  Randy, Lisa and Sunny offer opinions and examples on the value of obituaries to genealogical research.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

*  My Memorable Monthly Mentions (AKA My Favorite Blogs This Month) by Jacquie Schattner on the Seeds To Tree blog.

*  GAGs - GeniAus Gems - 10 April 2015 by Jill Ball on the GeniAus blog.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1560 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
