Best of the Genea-Blogs - 18 to 24 October 2015

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Yay! More Digitization of Genealogy Records at the National Archives (US) by Sunny Morton on the Lisa Louise Cooke's Genealogy Gems blog.  This is good news.  Faster, please!

*  How Could I Tell Which Amy Was Which? by Wayne Shepheard on the Discover Genealogy blog.  Wayne provides convincing evidence which Amy was the daughter of which brother in this 18th century English research story.

*  Ancestry.com What Were You Thinking in Montana? by Michael John Neill on the Rootdig.com blog.  Michael has issues with Ancestry's (and FamilySearch's) source citations in the Montana County Marriages database.

*  Checking the Townlands by Patricia O'Donnell Kuhn on the Touching Family History blog.  Pat found more information about her Irish Nyland folks in County Mayo.

*  Are Genealogists Introverts? by Jacqi Stevens on her A Family Tapestry blog.  Jacqi is reading an interesting book and many of us are in it - not named, of course.

*  Ancestry.com at Banking Conference - Part 2 by the writer of The Ancestry Insider blog.  This is a synopsis of what Ancestry said at this banking conference.

*  Back to the Future Genealogy:  Why I Want a Time Machine by Mary Tedesco on the Origins Italy blog.  Mary thinks we need to be careful what we wish for.

*  Solving My Biggest Problems With Genealogy Research by Kelly Martin on the Wickliffe Family History Blog.  Excellent ideas from Kelly.

*  New Jersey Estate Records: Surrogate's Courts -- Why is the Year 1804 So Important? by Michelle Tucker Chubenko on the NewJerseyRoots blog.  Michelle continues her excellent series on New Jersey probate records.

*  Building a WWII Timeline of Service by Jennifer Holik on the Ancestry.com Blog.  Jennifer describes her process for doing this.

*  What is Bounty Land? by Trevor on the Fold3 HQ blog.  Trevor answers the question about these useful records.

*  Land Terms for Genealogists: C is for Cadastral by Michele Goodrum on The In-Depth Genealogist blog.  Michele defines the term.

*  Five Reasons You Should Collaborate With Other Genealogists by Melody Lassalle on the Genealogy Research Journal Blog.  Great list, Mel.

*  Another Genealogy Tragedy Averted - Using the Genealogical Proof Standard by Geoff Rasmussen on the Legacy News blog.  Same name, about the right age at death - what could be wrong?  Good work.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1590 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
