Best of the Genea-Blogs - 27 September to 3 October 2015

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  The Living Legacy of Pamela Weisberger Z"l by Tammy Hepps on the Avotaynu Online blog.  Genealogy has lost a wonderful advocate and worker.  Tammy's eulogy is stunning.

*  FamilySearch Partner Search by Amy Archibald on the Revealing Roots and Branches blog.  Amy discusses the options available to search partner sites on the FamilySearch Family Tree.

*  Connecting With Cousins Abroad Part 2: Epic Day for a Genealogist by Eric Stroschein on the Legacy News blog.  Eric writes about meeting Swedish cousins.

*  Learning From the Other Side of the Fence by Jacqi Stevens on the A Family Tapestry blog.  Jacqi has challenging questions for genealogical societies.

*  When the Digital Age Hinders my Tony Proctor on the Parallax View blog.  Tony finds that the newspaper search on Findmypast is not accurate or satisfactory.

*  Anatomy of a Probate File by Claudia C. Breland on the Claudia C. Breland Genealogy and Online Research blog.  This is an excellent idea.

*  How to Navigate Around the Internet Archive Search Bug by the writer of The Ancestry Insider blog.  Well, who knew how to do this?

*  Fire and Devastation!  Reconstructing World War II Service by Jennifer Holik on the Ancestry.com Blog.  Jennifer describes how to start finding World War II records.

*  Brooke-ing No Denial: Reclaim the Records Pursues NYC Marriage Affidavits/Licenses by Emily Garber on the (going) the Extra Yad blog.  Emily's article reviews Brooke Ganz's success to date and future plans.

*  Online Trees and Sifting Through It All by Dave McDonald on the Thinking Genealogically blog.  Dave got his DNA test results, uploaded a tree, and is overwhelmed by it all.

*  Who Was Buried in the Grave, and Where Did the Body Go? by Lorine McGinnis Schulze on the Olive Tree Genealogy Blog.  Lorine has a mystery, can you help?

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

*  GAGs - GeniAus' Gems - 2 October 2015 by Jill Ball on the GeniAus blog.

Friday Finds! September 26 - October 2 by Nichelle Barra on the Copper Leaf Genealogy blog.

*  Friday Finds - 10/02/15 by Julie Cahill Tarr on Julie's Genealogy & History Hub blog.

This Week's Creme de la Creme -- October 3, 2015 by Gail Dever on the Genealogy a la Carte blog.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1590 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.

Randy, thanks so much for sharing my blog post this week. If there was ever one I wrote that matters to me, this is it. That one is really my heartbeat. I hope it generates some beneficial dialog for local societies!
