Best Of the Genea-Blogs - 22-28 November 2015

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Sunday Drive:  Train Travel in Victorian England by Pat Hartley on the Ancestry Island blog.  Pat does my homework for me and discovers that my Richman ancestors probably took the train to Liverpool and Bristol in the 1850s.

*  Initial Report on the New 23andMe for the Advanced User by Kitty Cooper on Kitty Cooper's Blog.  Kitty describes the new 23andMe website which is rolling out gradually to users.

*  Archived Records That Are Off the Beaten Path..... by Melissa Barker on the A Genealogist In the Archives blog.  Melissa has excellent suggestions for researchers.

*  Genealogy Gift Guide 2015 by Lisa Lisson on the Lisa Lisson blog.  Here's your list, be sure to ask Genea-Santa for things on it.

*  Gratitudes for Thanksgiving 2015 by Lois Mackin on the Lois Abromitis Mackin, Ph.D. blog.  Lois is thankful for many genealogy-related things.

*  My 2015 Genealogy Go-Over: Final Report! by Linda Stufflebean on the Empty Branches on the Family Tree blog.  Linda completed her monumental task before her deadline.

*  10 Easy Steps to Organizing Family Photos (Part 1) by Lorine McGinnis Schulze on the Legacy News blog.

*  Ten Things I Miss About Dad: Remembering John Alzo 1925-2005 by Lisa Alzo on The Accidental Genealogist blog.  We all should write posts like this about our parents, siblings, friends, etc.

*  The Seventh Annual Great Genealogy Poetry Challenge Posts by Bill West on the West in New England blog.  Bill had 7 geneabloggers enter this annual roundup.

*  Germany Calling by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogist blog.  One small thing solves the puzzle.

*  Genealogy Tip #8: Power Researching! by Gary Roberts on the Backtracking the Common blog.  Gary shares his research methodology at a repository.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

My Memorable Monthly Mentions (AKA My Favorite Blogs) by Jacquie Schattner on the Seeds to Tree blog.

Recommended Reads by Linda Stufflebean on the Empty Branches on the Family Tree blog.

Friday Finds November 21-27 by Nichelle Barra on the Copper Leaf Genealogy blog.

*  Friday Finds - 11/27/15 by Julie Cahill Tarr on Julie's Genealogy & History Hub blog.

This Week's Creme de la Creme -- November 28, 2015 by Gail Dever on the Genealogy a la Carte blog.

*  Best Bytes for the Week of 28 Nov 2015 by Elizabeth O'Neal on the Little Bytes of Life blog.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1590 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
