Best of the Genea-Blogs - 8 to 14 November 2015

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Ten Minute Methodology: When Index is a Dirty Word by Judy Kellar Fox on the BCG Springboard News and Notes blog.  Judy discusses indexed information vs. original source information.

*  Bastardy Bonds by Dave Tabler on the Appalachian History blog.  Dave provides an overview of this type of record in North Carolina.

*  Ten Things to Know About Researching a Pilgrim in Your Family Tree by Heather Wilkinson Rojo on the Nutfield Genealogy blog.  Heather lists how to find and process finding a Mayflower connection.

*  Genealogical Preparedness - Part 3 - Becoming a Professional by Cari Taplin on the Genealogy Pants blog.  Cari shares about her education, mentor and decision to upgrade her standards.

*  Using Flickr to Identify Your Ancestors by Lisa Lisson on the Lisa Lisson blog.  This is an excellent idea!

*  How Useful Have You Found the 1939 Register? by Hilary Gadsby on the Worldwide Genealogy ~ a Genealogical Collaboration blog.  Hilary reviews what has been written and said about the 1939 Register of England.

*  Researching Civil War Veterans in G.A.R. Records by Shelley Bishop on the A Sense of Family blog.  Shelley shares about these records and how you might find them.

*  Genealogists and the National Union Catalog by James Tanner on the Genealogy's Star blog.  James discusses offline (library and archives) material and family history information.

*  Why Marketing Experts Would Agree That You Should Write a Family History Blog by Lisa Louise Cooke on Lisa Louise Cooke's Genealogy Gems blog.  Lisa nails it.

*  Has Genealogy Gone "Mean?"  Rudeness Among Us by Nicholas Weerts on The Dead Relative Collector blog.  Perhaps...but most are not IMHO.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

Follow Friday ~ Fab Finds for November 13, 2015 by Jana Last on Jana's Genealogy and Family History Blog.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1590 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
