Geni World Family Tree has Over 100 Million Connected Profiles

I received this information from Amanda at Geni.com recently:

======================================

We're excited to let you know that Geni's World Family Tree now has over 100 million profiles connected!
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the entire Geni community, the World Family Tree has quickly become the leading, highest-quality family tree of the entire world. This significant milestone is the product of the hard work and research done by our dedicated community of users and our trusted team of volunteer Curators.
With over 100 million profiles connected to the World Family Tree, users have the opportunity to discover new distant cousins and see how they're related to a vast array of people, from celebrities to historical figures. By combining research into a single, collaborative tree, users can focus on verifying existing information and pursuing new leads rather than repeating the same research over again. Sources and citations can be added to a single location for all to view, mistakes are easily corrected and duplicates are eliminated. The World Family Tree is a truly global endeavor as millions of genealogists and family historians from all around the world work together to improve, enhance and preserve our shared ancestry.
Please read the announcement on our blog for further details: http://www.geni.com/blog/genis-world-family-tree-surpasses-100-million-profiles-392271.html
===========================================

This is an important announcement.  The 100 million plus profiles have been submitted over several years by researchers, mostly without the benefit of a GEDCOM import.

Like all collaborative family trees, there are erroneous relationships and duplicate entries, but the submitters and the curators are constantly working to reduce these problems.

Congratulations to Geni.com on this milestone.
