SDGS/SDHC Genealogy Day (15 October) Summary

The San Diego Genealogical Society (SDGS) and the San Diego History Center (SDHC) in Balboa Park sponsored the second annual Genealogy Day on Saturday, 15 October.

The keynote speaker was Anne Gillespie Mitchell, who spoke on "How Do I Know When I Am Right?"

Geneablogger Debby Warner Anderson summarized this presentation and Anne's second talk on "Finding and Researching Women"  in her blog post "San Diego History Center -- Genealogy Day."

After the keynote presentation, attendees could attend two other workshops at 10:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., choosing either Anne's second talk, or the presentations by the three other speakers - Del Ritchhart on "Using Newspapers as a Research Tool;"  Randy Seaver on "The Ten Best FREE Genealogy Websites;" and Jane Kenealy and Peter Steelquist on "San Diego Genealogy Research Resources."

Before the keynote address, in the times between the presentations, and after 12:30 p.m., there was a small exhibit hall with displays by several genealogical and heritage societies.  Here is one of my own photos of the exhibit area in the San Diego History Center:

All of this activity was in the San Diego History Center which was open to the public after 10 a.m.

I heard that there were about 80 attendees at this San Diego Genealogy Day.  There were quite a few SDGS and other local society members, but there were also SDHC members and attendees from the general public.
