Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Friendly Fill-Ins for Thanksgiving

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -
time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is your assignment if you choose to play along (cue the Mission Impossible music, please!):

1)
This is a fun meme co-hosted by McGuffy's Reader and 15 and Meowing (thanks to Suzanne McClendon on the P.S. Annie blog for the links).

2)  Fill in the blanks for these four statements:

1. One Thanksgiving tradition I have is __________________________.
2. Black Friday ______________________________________________.
3. The best part about Thanksgiving Day is _______________________.
4. One Thanksgiving, _________________________________________.

3)  Tell us in your own blog post, in a comment to this blog post, or in a Facebook or Google+ post.  Be sure to drop a comment to this post if you write your own blog post and link to it.

Here's mine:

1.  One Thanksgiving tradition I have is:  Watching the football games while trying to keep up with my blog writing.

2.  Black Friday:  is the day after Thanksgiving and I avoid going shopping.  I may do a lot of genealogy research that day.

3.  The best part of Thanksgiving Day is:  going out to dinner so that Linda doesn't have to cook.  We often invite friends to go with us.  This way there are no dried out turkey leftovers.

4.  One Thanksgiving (I think 2012), we were going to have the family over for dinner.  The week before, Linda bought a 13 pound turkey and put it in the freezer.  Several days before the big day, she got up early and wanted to take it out of the freezer to thaw it out.  Well, her hands slipped, and the turkey (about the size and heft of a bowling ball) dropped on her right foot, breaking a toe and damaging two other toes.

She managed to wake me up by yelling (it was like 6 a.m.) and I got up and treated her toe, got Mr. Butterball back in the fridge, and cleaned up the blood prints on the floor.  It was pretty obvious that the toe was broken, so we went to the E.R. and they treated it and gave her pain meds and sent her home.  Our daughter, Tami, stepped in as the cook on Thanksgiving Day and we had a great time.  Linda had little stress that day.  After that, we decided our new tradition would be to go out to Thanksgiving dinner.

1. One Thanksgiving tradition I have is to listen to "Alice's Restaurant," by Arlo Guthrie. As a second grader, my son had to write about a Thanksgiving tradition, and he wrote about listening to Alice's Restaurant. My son was correct, but my husband and I had started this tradition without realizing it.
2. Black Friday is a day to stay home with family.
3. The best part about Thanksgiving Day is sharing memories with family.
4. One Thanksgiving, my mother-in-law came home from church only to discover the turkey was missing from the oven, and a squash pie was missing from the counter.
My brother-in-law was always a prankster! Both were soon returned.

1. One Thanksgiving tradition I have is making the turkey stuffing. Lots of ingredients and tastes great. We prefer the stuffing over any other dish on the table, exception for the pumpkin pie.
2.Black Friday is non-existant. I do most of my shopping on line.
3.The best part about Thanksgiving Day is getting together with the family.
4.One Thanksgiving I was deathly ill and couldn't enjoy the day. I think I had the flu.

It sounds like the turkey got his revenge for Thanksgiving. The score is 1 for the turkey.
Have a happy Thanksgiving and welcome to the Friendly Fill-Ins. Great shout out for PS Annie!

Thanks for the shout out, Randy. I appreciate that very much. I hope that you enjoyed the fill-ins from our hostesses Annie and Ellen.

I'm sorry that the turkey broke your wife's toe and injured other toes in the process, too. OUCH! Cooking can be pretty dangerous when the food fights back. The turkey hasn't attacked me yet, but I'm sure my time is coming. :)

Have a blessed weekend and a very Happy Thanksgiving!

1 We have two family traditions. We go around the table and say what we are thankful for that year. We also bring our Christmas wish lists in triplicate and we draw names, so we are organized and ready for the next holiday.
2. I used to go out at the end of the day on Black Friday, but now most of my shopping is online.
3. The best part about Thanksgiving is that even though I'm in my 60's, the entire family still goes to my mom's house where we squeeze in and enjoy each other's company. And my mother still insists on doing all the cooking. She is a delicious cook.
4. The year my dad died, my mom had a wonderful story about "Frozen Turkey" that my daughter read. It's about how you want to freeze Thanksgiving and have everyone there. But if we "freeze", we would not have all of the new family members, including grandchildren, new spouses who bring us so much joy. Although we miss my dad, 20 years later, had he lived he would have seen 3 more delightful grandchildren, two grandchildren marriages to wonderful spouses, and 4 great grandchildren. We have a wedding will be coming in 2017, so life is good.
