Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Your Best Find of 2016, and Research Challenge for 2017

It's Saturday Night -
time for more Genealogy Fun!

Your mission, should you decide to accept it (cue the Mission Impossible! music) is to:
1)  What was your best research achievement in 2016?  Tell us - show us a document, or tell us a story, or display a photograph.  Brag a bit!  You've earned it!

2)  We all have elusive ancestors.  What research problem do you want to work on in 2017?  Tell us where you want to research and what you hope to find.

3)  Put the answers in your own blog post, in a comment to this blog post, or in a Facebook or Google+ post.

Here's mine:

1)  My best research achievement in 2016 was finding many of the extended family members of Elizabeth Auble (1814-1899) after receiving her will in an Ancestry Hint.  She was the sister of my 2nd great-grandfather, David Auble, and through this will I added four more siblings to my database, and identified many Auble line relatives.  I wrote about this in a series of blog posts:

*  Making Progress on My Auble Cousins - Post 1: Finding Elizabeth's Will (25 April 2016).
*  Making Progress on My Auble Cousins - Post 2: Transcription of Elizabeth Auble's Will (28 April 2016)

*  Making Progress on My Auble Cousins - Post 3: Identifying Elizabeth Auble's Heirs (29 April 2016)

*  Making Progress on My Auble Cousins -- Post 4: The William Auble Challenges (3 May 2016)
*  Making Progress on My Auble Cousins -- Post 5: The Sophia Auble Challenges Part 1 (5 May 2016)

*  Making Progress on My Auble Cousins -- Post 6: Solving the William Auble Challenge (6 May 2016)
*  Making Progress on My Auble Cousins - Post 7: Sophia Auble's Descendants (10 May 2016)
*  Making Progress on My Auble Cousins - Post 8: Nathan Auble's Descendants (17 May 2016)

*  Making Progress on My Auble Cousins - Post 9: Was Sarah Auble Elizabeth's Sister? (24 May 2016)

*  Making Progress on My Auble Cousins - Post 10: The Strubles (10 June 2016).

2)  For 2017, I anticipate adding to my RootsMagic database using information found online and at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City in February.  In the process, I may get a breakthrough on a brickwall ancestor, or perhaps another researcher will find my blog posts and be able to extend one or more lines.

I don't anticipate being able to travel much to do onsite research in 2017 due to my and Linda's health and mobility limitations.  We will go to RootsTech in Salt Lake City in February and to the Genealogy Jamboree in Burbank in June, and perhaps fit in a cruise in the fall.

In the future, I want to return to Massachusetts again to do onsite research, especially at the NEHGS and in local libraries, historical societies and cemeteries.  I want to go to southern Ontario to do onsite research on my Kemp and related lines.  I also want to visit northern New Jersey to try to find information about my Auble and Knapp and related lines.

I'd love to respond with my proudest find of the year, Randy, but I'd have to admit that I stumbled BACK across it after a couple years of not realizing just what I had found.

1. My best research achievements of 2016 were finding missing siblings for a grandparent. These were children who did not appear with a name in any census. Two of them were nameless children who show in the 1911 census as having died. The third one should have appeared in the 1911 census in the same way as the others but had not been recorded. I found him because his existence had been passed down by the family. (I have already written a post about this and will add the link)
2.I am working on my research tasks for this year. I have the opportunity in March to visit the archives in my home county so I hope to make the most of this visit to explore records not available online. I will blog about this when I have decided what I need to research. I will be looking at the catalogue for the archive again to see what's available to assist my research.(I will add a link to the post when available)

I discovered a bigamous grandfather (and provided the descendants from his second 'marriage' with information they never thought they'd have with which to trace their line back) : http://www.colevalleygirl.co.uk/work-in-progress/was-he-honest-it-might-be-question-definition

We have been home from a three week trip to Phoenix for a couple of weeks and just finished having Christmas dinners with family here in the mid west this weekend. Here is my belated post for this weeks challenge. I will try to get around to see everyone else's posts and leave comments as soon as possible.

Love this assignment! After neglecting my little genealogy blog for a over a year, in December, I finally got around to writing about the discovery of my great grandmother's ship transcript: http://deerparkdescendants.blogspot.com/

For this coming year, I have 2 goals: 1. To continue working on the creation of the Zweighaft Family Archives, scanning and organizing the hundreds of family documents and letters I've inherited, with a goal of donating the archives eventually to the NY State Library in Albany, NY. (http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/libdev/nyla/donor-guide.pdf). I've written some about my project on The Organized Genealogist FB group page.

2. To establish the relationship among 4 Zweighaft/Cwajghaft branches 3 of whom came to the U.S. in the 1800's from the area which is currently Poland. Common ancestry has been proven with 3 of the 4 branches via Y-DNA testing and hypotheses developed (common 2nd great grandparents), but proof not yet established. Collaboration this year with the 4th branch, the Cwajghaft relatives in Israel, should prove exciting.
