Monday Genea-Pourri - 25 December 2017

Here are some of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  I know it's Christmas Day, and I'm writing this on Christmas Eve, but I won't be able to add much until Christmas night.  We are looking forward to seeing our daughter and her husband and their three children - Lauren age 12, Audrey age 9, and Charlie age 3 in Huntington Beach on Christmas Day.

2)  Here is my major Christmas gift - an HP Envy laptop computer (sorry about the lighting in the photo):

My 7 year old Dell laptop crapped out last month, so I bought a new one at Costco.  I've transferred most of my genealogy data to the new laptop, but not all of the family photos.

2)  I managed to get through this past month by not shopping anywhere in person (well, besides the grocery store and Costco and 99 Cent Store).  I did all of my Christmas shopping (two daughters, one son-in-law, five grandchildren, one wife, one brother-in-law, and two friends) online.  For the daughters and grandkids, Amazon was the choice.  For wife Linda, it was Amazon, Blair, and several other stores.  All delivered to my door (except for a daughter and two grandkids, which was shipped directly to them).  I wrapped everything I had on Saturday afternoon in 30 minutes.  Whew!  I just realized I forgot to get something for me on Amazon, like genealogy books.  I need a VGA to HDMI adapter for my new laptop too.  Oh well, post-Christmas sales should be fun.

3)  There were daily sessions working in RootsMagic to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and other ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 21,305 of my persons with FSFT.  I now have 49,305 persons in my RootsMagic file.   I TreeShared almost every night.  There were also several sessions in Ancestry Hints to add content and source citations for the new RootsMagic profile additions.   I've fallen behind on the Record Hints with 52,076 waiting to be resolved, but I'm working on it.  Every time I add something to RootsMagic and TreeShare, the Hints multiply.

4)  I have 255 Shared Ancestors on my AncestryDNA list (I had 253 last week), 665 4th cousins or closer (up from 653 last week), 553 pages (over 27,600 matches with at least 5 cM) of  matches.  I have 14 DNA Circles (no change for weeks). There were no new close matches (3rd cousin or closer).

5)  I have 270 DNA Matches on MyHeritage (up from 266 last week).  There were no new close matches this week.

6)  I have 1170 DNA Relatives on 23andMe who share at least 0.10% with me.  Of these, only 9 share 1.0% or more, 18 share 0.50% or more, with the highest being 1.54%.  These matches are the most difficult to find out anything about the testers.

7)  I have 2222 Matches on FamilyTreeDNA who share 0.25% (18 cM) or more, with the highest match being 1.42% (96 cM).  I have 12 who share at least 1.0% (68 cM) with me, and 1195 who share at least 0.50% (34 cM) or more with me.  I have had better luck finding shared ancestors with a few of these testers.

8)  I had fun reposting a number of Christmas theme blog posts from past years, and updating them as required.

9)  The blog post with the most views this past week was for Ancestry Member Trees, Indexing Rules, Cousin Bait, Source Citations and Me.  It has 917 views so far.

10)  All in all, it was a fairly quiet week on the genealogy front.

Thanks for always sharing your story. I'm happy for that you got yourself a new laptop.
