Exploring RootsMagic 6 - Post 4: Enabling Facts in Reports and Web Pages

In Exploring RootsMagic 6 - Post 3: My RootsMagic Family Tree Website (posted 21 November 2012), I complained that I couldn't figure out how to make all of the Facts in my RootsMagic 6 database show up on my RootsMagic web page, and that I couldn't see all of the media items for a Fact with more than one media item.

Bruce Buzbee, the RootsMagician, commented on the post:

"The website actually does include all the images for each fact. It only displays one at a time but there are arrows below the image to move back and forth (you can also tap the image itself to move to the next image for that fact).

"On the missing fact types, can you do Lists > Fact type list and edit the fact types and see if they are checked to include when publishing online? If they are, another thing to check is whether the fact has been marked as private in the person's edit screen."

With those clues, I easily fixed my problems... and I thought my readers might want to see how I did it following Bruce's directions:

1)  For the missing fact type problem, I went to the Lists menu item, and clicked on the "Fact Type List" item:

That opened the "Fact Types" window, where I scrolled down to find the "Census" Fact Type and highlighted it.  It said that this Fact was not included for the "Publish online/Create HTML feature.  I wanted it to be included, so I clicked on the "Edit" button on the "Fact List" window:

The "Edit Fact Type" screen opened, and I clicked the check box (shown above) for the "Publish online/create HTML" feature.  That was easy!  I did several more Fact Types that were not included.

After clicking "OK" button on both windows above, I clicked on my great-grandfather's name to see his "Edit Person" screen:

There is a long list of Facts for this person.

After including the selected Facts, I had to go through the process of creating a new My RootsMagic website (using the process described in Exploring RootsMagic 6 - Post 2: Online Publishing (posted 21 November 2012) in order to see if the changes worked.

On my updated My RootsMagic website, I navigated to my great-grandfather, Frank Walton Seaver and saw (top of the page):

Aha, the Census and Occupation Facts, and more down the page, are now included.

2)  What about seeing all of the media items for a given Fact?  Bruce told me that there would be navigation arrows below the image.  I clicked on the Media icon for the Birth Fact above, and an image opened:

Sure enough, beneath the caption for the image, there are navigation arrows.  I clicked on the right-facing arrow (meaning "Next" I think) and saw:

Yep, there's the second image.  That works too!  Cool.

Bruce noted in his comment that if I just click on the first image that the second image will appear. That's great...

I haven't found any other little problems to wonder about on the conversion of the RootsMagic 6 database to a My RootsMagic website, but I'll keep working with them until I get it right.

I love the way you methodically work your way through all the twists and turns of RM... I just went in and edited my facts items now, and have them the way I want them. Thanks Randy, for your very clear details of how you worked with the menus/items!

Randy,
Your series on publishing with Roots Magic on line is great.

The finished product is fantastic with all the facts, sources, and links to documents.

It's much better than a narrative print-out.

Now my question - Once the webpage is created on-line; is there any way the entire web page can be turned into a BOOK maintining ALL the hyperlinks to facts, sources and documents.
