Defining the General Society of Mayflower Descendants Application Process

After I wrote Do I Have Enough Information to Join Society of Mayflower Descendants? on 30 November, I heard from many Facebook friends and Genea-Musings readers encouraging me to apply for membership.

Reader Howard Swain provided several very helpful links to help me in the application process.  They include:

1)  The Application Process and Documentation Requirements - from the Canadian Society of Mayflower Descendants website - http://csmd.org/?page_id=88:

2)  Application Tips - from the Canadian Society of Mayflower Descendants website - http://csmd.org/?page_id=4:

3)  How to Join or Apply for a Supplemental Line - from the California Mayflower Society website -  http://www.mayflowersociety.com/HowToJoin.html:

4)  The Preliminary Review Form  from the California Mayflower Society website - http://www.mayflowersociety.com/downloads/Preliminary%20Review%20Form-CA%20Mayflower_r3.pdf:

Apparently, they expect the applicant to handwrite or type into the blanks.

I have briefly reviewed these websites and will start working on the Review Form.  I hope they can read my handwriting!

This may be great genealogy fun...

Thank you, Howard, for helping me out here.

Massachusetts Mayflower Society has gone to a review form that can be filled out and submitted online. So much easier than the handwritten form! I finally submitted mine the other day. Although no longer live in MA, I hope to join that chapter. I do not plan to stay in my current state of residence, and I still consider Massachusetts my home.
I will continue to follow your progress, as I get my documents in order.

I submitted my application to the Massachusetts Mayflower Society a couple of weeks ago and have already heard back. I am now in the process obtaining records that the genealogist identified that I need to finish proving the line. The first 6 lines were already proven and the births of a couple of other people that came from prominent families have been proven for me also.

Even though I have lines that qualify for the Winthrop Society, and the Sons of the American Revolution (recently got accepted to SAR and have Winthrop application pending), I don't have any Mayflower connections on my tree. Well, there is one claimed connection to Thomas Rogers in an online tree, but a review of that line suggests (I think) that the tree online is wrong. Too bad they don't search your tree for you to find a good candidate. :) Fortunately, you don't have to worry about that.
