Best of the Genea-Blogs - Week of 17 to 23 January 2016

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Mobile Research - Scanner Edition by Denise Barrett Olson on the Moultrie Creek Gazette blog.  Denise reviews the options available for iOS, Android and Windows mobile device.

*  GeneaBloggers Celebrates Seven Years! by Thomas MacEntee on the GeneaBloggers blog.  Well done, Thomas!

*  Proofing Your Family History by Penny Stratton on the Vita Brevis blog.  Penny has excellent suggestions here.

*  5 Things You Can Do In Genealogy When You're Short on Time by Amy Johnson Crow on the Amy Johnson Crow blog.  Good ones.

*  Behind the Scenes at the Genealogy Roadshow by Elizabeth O'Neal on the Little Bytes of Life blog.

*  No Commas Were Hurt Creating This Post by Michael John Neill on the Rootdig.com blog.  Thank goodness!  Funny, and right, too.

*  SLIG 2016: A Photo Recap; Day 1; Day 2 by J. Paul Hawthorne on the GeneaSpy blog.  Paul shares his experiences at SLIG 2016.

*  Tips for Solving a Challenging Genealogical Puzzle by Lorine McGinnis Schulze on the Olive Tree Genealogy Blog.  Lorine is really good at this!

*  SLIG Colloquium 2016 and a GBA by Janet Hovorka on The Chart Chick blog.  Janet thinks about starting a genealogy business group.

*  How Well Does Ancestry.com Handle GEDCOM? by Keith Riggle on the Genealogy Tools blog.  Keith continues his GEDCOM series about genealogy trees and desktop software.  Note thel inks to many desktop programs.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

*  GAGs - GeniAus' Gems - 22 January 2016 by Jill Ball on the GeniAus blog.

Recommended Reads by Linda Stufflebean on the Empty Branches on the Family Tree blog.

Friday Finds Jan 16 - 22 by Nichelle Barra on the Copper Leaf Genealogy blog.

*  Friday Finds ~ Fab Finds for January 22, 2016 by Jana Last on Jana's Genealogy and Family History Blog.

This Week's Creme de la Creme -- January 23, 2016 by Gail Dever on the Genealogy a la Carte blog.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1590 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
