  1. Hi Randy,
Always nice to see some Dutch ancestors :-)

I must admit I am puzzled how the prior researchers made the connection between Drenthe, England, Rhode Island and New York. Ruinerwold was a very rural community in the province of Drenthe, the Netherlands, not a place from where I would expect a family to migrate from to England or Rhode Island. If anywhere, I would have expected them to go to New Netherland. Ruinerwold was not a haven for Pilgrims either, it was completely off the beaten track and not a place where outsiders would have settled.
Also, there are some inconsistencies in the tree you linked to. Mary was born in England in 1630, yet her father is listed as dying in the Netherlands in 1632. Her brother Peter was listed as born in 1626 and dying in 1730, an ususually long lifespan that suggests two same-named persons may have been merged into one identity.
Ruinerwold records for the early 1600s are scarce. Church records of baptisms, marriages and burials only start in the 1660s. The only records I know of for that time and place are court records, which are unindexed; not a source most researchers would use. I wonder what resources the prior researchers used to find these people.
Unfortunately the tree is undocumented, so there is no way to verify the information or assess the reasoning behind the parent-child connections. As it is, I consider it highly suspect and would not recommend trusting it.

  2. Yvette,

Thank you for your comments and discussion on this LOTT family. I don't know the answer to your questions and need to do more research to see if I can figure it out.
