Best of the Genea-Blogs - 18 to 24 September 2016

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  How Many Widows Do You Leave Stranded? by Michael John Neill on the Rootdig.com blog.  Good question!

*  Lewis's Death Record Finally Rises by Devon Noel Lee on The Patient Genealogy blog.  Devon's patience and resourcefulness pay off.

*  New 23andMe Experience -- In a Word, Disappointing by Roberta J. Estes on the DNAeXplained - Genetic Genealogy blog.  Roberta walks us through the new 23andMe website.  I agree with her conclusion!

*  Go Vertical by Larry Naukam on The In-Depth Genealogist blog.  Larry describes how vertical files can aid your research.

*  Vertical Files vs. Manuscript Collections: How Are They Different? by Melissa Barker on the A Genealogist in the Archives blog.  Melissa shares her insights on this topic.

*  Reaping What We Sow - Part I by Tony Proctor on the Parallax View blog.  Tony discusses the state of the genealogy art and how we got there.

*  Research Plans, Mind Maps and a Case Study by Sue on the Kindred Past blog.  I love the Mind Map and the case study example.

*  Productivity Counts: Making the Best Use of Your Family History Time by Diana Elder on the Family Locket blog.  Diana shares some of her productivity tools as she works on her AG.

*  How to use PERSI to find out information about your ancestor's death by Alexandra Edmondson on the Findmypast Blog.  This should be very helpful.

*  Finding Joy by Dave Dowell on the Dr. D. Digs Up Ancestors blog.  Dr. D. describes a successful finding  family challenge for a friend.

*  Record Hints vs. Manual Searching: Which Wins?  by James Tanner on the Genealogy's Star blog.  I think we all do!

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1600 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
