Recently, I discovered an envelope of small photographs saved when my mother died in 2002 - it was hiding in plain sight in the Genea-Cave!
Included in the photo cache was this oldie-but-goodie - Randy and grandfather Lyle Carringer in the corn field having fun in 1945:
I'm not sure this is a corn field, but I know that Lyle and his parents grew everything on their lots on the 30th Street block in San Diego, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was a corn field. My guess is that the field was on the south side of the houses at 2115 30th and 2114 Fern Streets. I think that this photo was taken in 1945 because I'm walking and would be two years old in October 1945.
I look very busy here in my short pants and holding my doll, and my grandfather was very attentive. He was a wonderful person in my life, and I loved him very much. In 1944-5, my father was in the U.S. Navy during World War II, so Lyle was the substitute father in my life. My mother was working, and my grandparents took care of me during this time.
