Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:
It's Saturday Night again -
time for some more Genealogy Fun!!
Your mission, should you decide to accept it (cue the Mission Impossible music!), is to:
1) Marcia Philbrick wrote Celebrating 50 Years today on her Heartland Genealogy blog, and suggested it for a Saturday Night Genealogy Fun challenge, so here it is:
2) How many of your ancestors were married for FIFTY years? What is the longest marriage of your ancestors in your tree (from marriage to first death of a spouse, or divorce)? Consider, say, the last 6 generations to make it manageable!
3) Tell us in your own blog post, in a comment to this post, or in a Facebook post. Please leave a comment on this blog post to lead us to your answers.

My longest is actually my aunt and uncle, obviously not my direct line, who have been married for 64 years. Here is my direct line, with many much shorter marriages: https://emptybranchesonthefamilytree.com/2019/02/saturday-night-genealogy-fun-11/
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I did a quick calculation through my gr-grandparents, so parents, grandparents and gr-grandparents were included - 7 couples. They were married an average of 45.5 years - which I think is remarkably high. The shortest marriage of 25 years, was of my father's parents, when his father, a big smoker, died at 49 of a sudden heart attack. The longest marriages are in a close tie. By 3 months, both of my mother's grandparents were married 55 years give or take a month. All marriages ended by death, not divorce. I'm not sure they were all happy love matches, but they were all devoted to each other. This is a great time to ask. My husband and I will be celebrating 40 years in a couple of months. We are a happy love match. Happy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Randy. I could only go back five generations. Here's my list: https://nancysfamilyhistoryblog.blogspot.com/2019/02/married-fifty-years-saturday-night.html
