I Am Going to RootsTech 2020 in Salt Lake City!

I attended RootsTech 2012 to 2018 with my wife, but skipped 2019 because Linda has mobility problems and we can't handle the walking in Salt Lake City any more, even with me driving a wheelchair (places are often uphill!).

My darling daughter Lori knew how much I wanted to go to RootsTech, and she agreed to come down to Chula Vista to be the caregiver for Linda during RootsTech week.   This was my Christmas gift from her.  Thank you, Lori!

After receiving this gift of love and time, and clearing it with Linda, I fired off an email to my RootsTech friend and asked if there was a possibility that I could be a RootsTech Ambassador so that I could use the Media Hub while there.  I rarely go to classes, and spend most of my time in the Exhibit Hall, and about half of that in the Media Hub.  They said YES today, so I registered for RootsTech as an ambassador, signed up for the Ambassador Facebook group, and downloaded the expectations document.

After registering, I received an email asking me to describe "my favorite RootsTech moment."  It didn't take long for me to respond:

"This is easy - Jay Verkler's keynote address in RootsTech 2012 provided a vision for the future.  It was visionary - we all understood that.  We were ambivalent whether it would work out the way Jay described it.  I wrote about it in detail in https://www.geneamusings.com/2012/02/do-you-believe-familysearch-vision-of.html.  Jay's vision is playing out every year - much of it is reality now, some of it isn't."

Have you read that post recently?  I had not, and was amazed at the vision of Jay and how I responded to it.  As my readers know, I like, use and appreciate the FamilySearch Family Tree.

My task now is to find a relatively cheap hotel to sleep and blog in - the conference hotels and nearby hotels are booked, so it looks like Little America, which is on the TRAX line in case of weather problems, may be my choice.

The next task is to find a seat on an aircraft and make reservations for arriving on Wednesday and returning on Sunday.  I need to coordinate that with Lori so we don't make more than two trips to the airport.

The third task is to update my smart phone.  I have a five-year-old iPhone 5 that uses battery power very quickly and has limited file space now.  Photos are the big problem.  If the battery lasted longer, I would use the phone more for apps, maps and photos.

I look forward to attending RootsTech SLC 2020 and being a RootsTech Ambassador for the 9th year in a row (I was a virtual ambassador last year).

Disclosure:  As a RootsTech Ambassador, I receive a 4-day pass complimentary registration and make a commitment to publicize the conference before, during and after the event.

Give Lori a big hug Randy. She has not only made you happy, but many of your friends as well. I’m thrilled that you'll be attending. It will be my 2nd time and I’m very excited. Always nice to have something to look forward to.

Glad to hear you will be attending; but I am confused by your ending statement that it would be your 9th straight year of being an Ambassador, yet you didn't attend last year? Anyhow, glad you will be making it--much thanks to the generosity of your daughter. A great gift. We have a Grandson's wedding in Jan and three college graduations in May/June; so it isn't in this year's budget. I am hoping, however, to make the one in 2021. All the best for a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Del, I was there 2012-2018, and a virtual ambassador in 2019, hence 9 years straight 2012-2020
