Seavers In the News -- Mrs. Jennie Seaver Dies in 1947 in Brattleboro, Vermont

 It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Brattleboro [Vt.] Reformer newspaper dated 5 November 1947:

The transcription of the article is:

"MRS. JENNIE SEAVER
Housekeeper for Hubbard Eddy for 26 Years

"Mrs. Jennie Brundell Seaver, 89, died this morning at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.

"For the past 26 years she has been the housekeeper for Hubbard Eddy of Wardsboro, spendingm ost of her summers there and wintering in Brattleboro at the House of Flowers.  She was born in 1858 in new Brunswick, Canada.  A son, William P. Seaver of Washington, D.C. survives, and she is also survived by a grandson, Joseph, of Dallas, Tex., his wife and two sons.

"Funeral arrangements await the arrival here Thursday of Mrs. Seaver's son."

"Mrs. Jennie Seaver,The Brattleboro [Vt.] Reformer newspaper, obituary, Wednesday, 5 November 1947, page 5, column 3, Jennie Brundell Seaver obituary;  Newspapers.com   (https://www.newspapers.com : accessed 11 February 2021).

This obituary provides a birth year and place, an age, an implied death date and place, the names of one son and grandson, and information about her employment.

Jennie D. Blundell (1855-1947) was born 4 August 1855 in New Brunswick, the daughter of James and Mary (--?--) Blundell.  She married William Seaver (1855-1901) on 7 December 1879 in Brookline, Massachusetts.  They had three sons:

*  Joseph Herbert Seaver (1880-1933), married 1907 Henrietta Carol Benson (1884-????).
*  William Parker Seaver (1882-1962), married 1906 Minerva Abbey Ray (1882-1947).
*  male Seaver (1891-1891).

The obituary gives Jennie's maiden name of Brundell, but the 1879 marriage record, records for her parents, and the FamilySearch Family Tree, says Blundell.

I am a 5th cousin 5 times removed to her husband, William Seaver, with the common Seaver ancestors being Robert and Elizabeth (Ballard) Seaver in the 1630s.

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person loses her husband at a young age and is a widow for 46 years I am glad that I can honor Jennie D. (Blundell) today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
