It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.
The transcription of the article is:
"Mrs. Walter E. Seaver

"Seaver," The Boston [Mass.] Globe newspaper, death notice, Tuesday, 1 August 1950, page 12, column 4, Mrs. Walter E. Seaver obituary notice; Newspapers.com (https://www.newspapers.com : accessed 18 March 2021).
This obituary provides a married name, an implied death date, a spouse's name, an occupation, and a long list of attendees at her funeral service, but nothing about her birth, birthplace, or children.
Althea Hilda Harvey was born 17 April 1886 in Stewiacke, New Brunswick, the daughter of Robert Albert and Mary Elizabeth (Brown) Harvey. She married Walter Enwright Seaver (1890-1985) on 15 August 1921 in New York City. They had three children:
* Patricia Anne Seaver (1924-1998), married 1945 Joseph Edward Johnson (1904-????).
* Robert Enwright Seaver (1925-????).
* Donald Brown Seaver (1927-????).
I am probably not related to Walter Enwright or Althea Hilda (Harvey) Seaver or their children. Walter is descended from Frederick Randolph. Seaber (1813-1888) who came from Prussia to New England before 1838.
There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them. Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has a number of well known friends and colleagues that come to her funeral. I am glad that I can honor Althea Hilda (Harvey) Seaver today.
You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.

Seaver was one of baseball's most noteworthy untouched pitchers. Known as 'Tom Terrific' and 'The Franchise,' the right-hander began his MLB vocation with the New York Mets, the aftereffect of a unique draft lottery...
ReplyDeletePatricia Ann Seaver married Lt. JOSEPH EDWARD Johnson in Boston's North Church on 24 November 1945. There were engagement and wedding notices in the Boston Globe, Boston Traveler, and Boston Post in late November/early December 1945, naming her parents and other family members, so I'm certain it's the correct marriage for her. I am still trying to locate birth info about Joseph Edward Johnson (he may be living). John Walter Johnson apparently married Patricia Ann SINGLETON. I am not related to these Seavers; but Donald Brown Seaver (living?) married my cousin's sister-in-law, and I've been having such a hard time finding info about that side of the family that I started digging into extended family as well. Way the heck down the rabbit hole.
ReplyDeleteHi Amy, thank you for the correction. I have updated my database and will change my blog post.
ReplyDeleteWish I could tell you anything else about Joseph Edward Johnson. All these Johnsons are hard to sort out! If I had a subscription to Fold, I might be able to find info via his military record, but I only have so much $$ to throw at this hobby. I added a few newspaper clips and photos to the Seavers' FamilySearch profiles, including a wonderful photo of the two boys, aged 4 and 6. So my cousin's husband I was having trouble finding into about, whose sister married the youngest Seaver? He disappeared doing something shady for the government. Holy moly.
