Edmund Rice (1663-1726) was born in about 1663 in Marlborough, Massachusetts Bay Colony, the second son and 4th child of Samuel and Elizabeth (King) Rice of Marlborough[1].

Edmund Rice married Ruth Parker (1672-before 1720) on 15 November 1692 in Marlborough, Middlesex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony[1-2].  She was the daughter of John and Sarah (--?--) Parker of Roxbury, Massachusetts Bay Colony.  They had 12 children, all born and recorded in Marlborough vital records.

*  Silas Rice (1695-1779), married 1715 Marie Tsionnakwannen Tsaikohawi (1699-1779).
*  Timothy Rice (1697-1777), married Catherine Osennehawe (1701-1750).
*  Nahor Rice (1699-1704).
*  Huldah Rice (1701-1741), married 1720 Samuel Wheelock (1696-1756).
*  Moses Rice (1703-1704).
*  Seth Rice (1705-1796), married 1727 Dorothy Robinson (1709-1801).
*  Thankful Rice (1707-1779), married 1726 Josiah Rice (1700-1792).

Edmund Rice of Westborough married, secondly, Hannah Brewer (1672-1766) of Sudbury on 23 June 1720 at Sudbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony[3]. They had no children.

During Queen Anne's War, three of Edmund Rice's children were captured in an Iroquois Indian raid on 8 August 1704 in Marlborough.  His 5 year old son, Nahor, was killed. Two other children, Silas aged 9 years old and Timothy almost 7 years old were taken to Quebec with other captives.  Silas married an Indian wife; by 1900 he had 1350 living descendants, and died in Canada in 1779 having lost his ability to speak his mother tongue.  Timothy married an Indian wife, and became a chief of the Caughnawagas tribe.  He visited Westborough, Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1740 and died in Canada in 1777.

Edmund Rice resided after 1692 at Marlborough, Middlesex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony, in the part that was set off in 1717 as Westborough.  He was one of the original members of the church in 1724 at Westborough[1]

Edmond Rice died after 10 August 1726 and before 12 September 1726 in Westborough[1,4]. There is no death record or burial record for Edmund or Ruth (Parker) Rice.

He wrote his will on 10 August 1726, and it was proved in Middlesex County Probate Court on 12 September 1726 in Case File 18697[4]. The will mentioned wife Hannah, sons Seth ("the eldest now with me"), Eleazer; and daughters Dinah Brigham, Huldah Wheelock, Thankful Rice, Ruth Rice, and Anna Rice. Beloved brother Joshua Rice and trusted friend Caleb Rice were named the Executors. The probate file includes an inventory and executor's account.
