Gloria Mills of Ontario Wins the Ancestry Subscription in Genea-Musings Contest

Last week, I posted Genea-Musings Contest - Win a Free One-Year Ancestry World Explorer Subscription thanks to the offer by Ancestry.com to celebrate my 15,000th Genea-Musings blog post.

The deadline for entries was 11 p.m. PST on Monday (8 November).  I received only 21 entries from Genea-Musings readers, Facebook Friends and Twitter users despite the blog post and the social media exposure (of which I get very little).

On Tuesday afternoon I went to https://www.random.org/ and put "21" into the "Max" field, clicked on the "Generate" button and the first random number provided was "14."

I went to my list of entrants and counting down from the top I found that #14 was Gloria Mills of Ontario, Canada.  I emailed Gloria and told her she was the winner and she was ecstatic.  I emailed my Ancestry.com contact with her name, email and username.

In my contest, I asked the entrants to answer three questions.  Here were Gloria's responses:

1)  What do you like best about Genea-Musings?

Gloria:  I think Genea-Musings has a very comprehensive and up to date list of all the pertinent genealogy news and blogs to help us put flesh on the bones of our ancestors not yet discovered - it's very helpful and fun too!

2)  What do you like best about Ancestry.com?

Gloria:  Ancestry has such a rich repository of records and documents in one place that helps both the beginner and family history expert both, and finding these records doesn't require rocket science as their search functions are straightforward and easy to manoever.

3)  What will you research using the Ancestry World Explorer subscription?

Gloria:  My husband Jamie has been making noise about me neglecting HIS side of the tree, so I have promised to devote more time to filling out his branches.  His 19th century ancestors are mostly from Ireland and the USA, and it will be interesting to see how far back I am able to reach.

I look forward to hearing how Gloria progresses in her research.

Thank you to the 21 entrants to my contest.  Many of the answers to the questions were serious and informative.  Unfortunately, there can be only one winner in a contest such as this.

Thank you to Ancestry.com for offering the free subscription and providing it to the contest winner.

=============================================

Disclosure: I receive a complimentary all-access subscription from Ancestry.com, for which I am thankful. Ancestry.com has provided material considerations for travel expenses to meetings, and has hosted events and meals that I have attended in Salt Lake City, in past years.

Thanks very much, Randy!

I am very excited (and surprised!) to win the year's subscription, and this could not have come at a better time for me. I will let you know how I get on with exploring my husband's side of our family!

Gratefully,
Gloria
