Love it. Simply love it. So simple and peaceful - you can see the cold night and nativity scene through the Huron eyes. It was composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847 based on a French poem "Minuit, chrétiens" (Midnight, Christians) by Placide Cappeau. The version we sing today was written by an Unitarian minister named John Sullivan Dwight. Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O_Holy_Night)has lots of links to versions of this song. It is a hard one to sing, but very beautiful to listen to. Christmas Canon is a strong runner-up.Lisa S. I like the original by Bobby Helms.

There's a lyric in the song that says "giddy up jingle horse, kick up your feet..." Well, for some silly reason, my sister and I, at that line, would lift out arms about half-way, with hands down, to somewhat recreate what I guess we thought looked like a horse rearing on hind legs.
Now, probably 20 years later, we STILL do that silly move, every time we are together and hear that song. It's our silly sister thing, and even my husband will do the "jingle horse" move if we're all together!Jenny Joneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17342746793201329515noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26204193.post-70735323898797341912011-12-10T12:55:42.638-08:002011-12-10T12:55:42.638-08:00I discovered this song for the first time just 2 d...I discovered this song for the first time just 2 days ago: http://goo.gl/tVHym. I love it already and it is going to be my theme tune for Christmas 2011. All the more beautiful because the pianist was 90 at the time and the singer has been quadriplegic and in a wheelchair since the age of 17. Yet in the video both are filled with the radiant joy of what Christmas means to them.Carohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04977450933277241692noreply@blogger.com
