Best of the Genea-Blogs - 24 February to 2 March 2013

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for the genealogy carnivals, or other meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  The Autosomal Me by Roberta J. Estes on the DNAeXplained - Genetic Genealogy blog.  Wow - Roberta lays out ALL of her autosomal test results from all of the DNA testing companies.

*  Crying Uncle! by Jacqi Stevens on the A Family Tapestry blog.  Jacqi got a tip from a genealogy chat on Twitter and found a goldm ine.

*  WDYTYA Report 1: This Genealogy Event is BIG! by Denise Levenick on The Family Curator blog.  Denise covers the WDYTYA Live event.

*  More WDYTYA Live News by Chris Paton on the British GENES (British Genealogy News and Events) blog.  Chris provides his experiences at the WDYTYA Live event in London.

*  Mom Danced the Charleston by Lee Drew on the Family History With the Lineagekeeper blog.  What a wonderful remembrance of Lee's mother!

*  The Value of Researching Deeds by Brenda Joyce Jerome on the Western Kentucky Genealogy Blog.  Brenda describes why she values deed research.

*  Citing U.S. Passport Applications from Ancestry.com by Michael John Neill on the Rootdig.com blog.  Michael figures it out, but it's not easy.

*  Back for a Fourth Year: Fearless Females: 31 Blogging Prompts to Celebrate Women's History Month by Lisa Alzo on The Accidental Genealogist blog.  Lisa has writing prompts for all of us - an excellent list!

*  Time Ripens all Things -- Contgacting Your Birth Father by Nancy Siddons-Daniels on the Record Click blog.  Nancy explains the dynamics involved in this sensitive issue.

*  Genealogy Goes to the Movies by Audrey Collins on The Family Recorder blog.  Audrey adds a little something to her post...about a million links to films, old and new.  In three paragraphs!

These genea-bloggers wrote weekly pick posts and news summary posts this week:

*  Monday Morning Mentions by Lynn Palermo on The Armchair Genealogist blog

*  Monday Recap for February 25, 2013 by Amanda on the Geni Blog.

*  Follow Friday - Fab Finds for March 1, 2013 by Jana Last on Jana's Genealogy and Family History Blog.

*  Rockets in Flight! Women's Rights! It's Follow Friday! by Anne Gillespie Mitchell on the Finding Forgotten Stories blog.

*  Follow Friday - Favorites for March 1, 2013 by Heather Kuhn Roelker on the Leaves for Trees blog.

*  Friday Finds - 03/01/13 by Julie Cahill Tarr on the GenBlog blog.

*  Saturday Serendipity by John D. Tew on the Filiopietism Prism blog.

*  Weekly Genealogy Picks by John Newmark on the TransylvanianDutch blog.

I encourage readers to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Google Reader, RSS feed or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1350 genealogy bloggers using Google Reader, but I still miss quite a few it seems.

  1. Randy, I'm honored that you included me in your list for this week in review! And I'm so grateful for the discovery, thanks to #genchat! Historic newspaper collections add so much to the research process.
