We’ve all had interesting and eventful lives. But, how many of us have taken the time to share those wonderful memories with loved ones? That’s what this presentation from San Diego writer Sid Shapira is all about.

In his presentation, Shapira will share his passion for writing life stories, demonstrate the value in creating a life story, and outline the process involved in producing a life story.
Sid Shapira is a San Diego-based writer and corporate communications specialist. In his professional career, he has had extensive experience in media, public relations and marketing. Born in Winnipeg, Canada, Sid graduated from Ryerson University in Toronto with his B.A. in journalism. After beginning his career as a reporter for The Globe and Mail (Canada’s national newspaper), Sid transitioned into the public relations and marketing communications arena. Sid has held management roles in marketing communications and internal communications for such companies as Qualcomm and The San Diego Union-Tribune. Earlier in his career, Sid co-authored The Time of My Life, the autobiography of Jack Leonard, a Time Inc. executive who lived in La Jolla. His passion for writing profile pieces and human interest stories prompted Sid to start his memoir writing business, Stories Be Told. Since 2011, he has enjoyed collecting and documenting the stories of many fascinating individuals through Stories Be Told.
2) Session 2, at approximately 11:30 p.m., features SDGS member Dona Ritchie:
Workflow for Genealogical Research
Speaker: Dona Ritchie
Dona has been researching her family history, and that of her husband, for over 30 years, tracing Colonial New England roots, Quakers and Mennonites, German and Swiss ancestors, Welsh and Scots-Irish. She was also a desktop publisher for many years, and gained skills in that field that have allowed her to help a number of people publish their family history books (editing and designing the books for printing) and to restore many old photographs for herself and others. She is skilled in the use of Reunion for the Mac and in using other digital-age tools to assist with research. Dona has taught a number of classes for various genealogical societies around San Diego County, and runs the Macintosh User Group through CGSSD.
Dona's presentation for this meeting will be "Workflow for Genealogical Research." Learn tips for determining what you need to research, focusing your research to increase success, maximizing results from particular sources, and organizing your research plans and results. Digital as well as traditional techniques will be covered, as will be software tools that can assist you in your research.
