The subject today is the deed by Amos Underhill selling land in Aurora, Erie County, New York to Deloss Underhill in 1856 [starts on the bottom half of the right-hand deed record on the first image below]:

Here is my transcription of this entry (handwritten portions in italics) in Erie County, New York, Land Records, Liber 196, Pages 459-460 (accessed in the "New York, Land Records, 1630-1975" collection on https://FamilySearch.org):

1 Deed
2 This Indenture made the nineteenth day of April one thousand eight hundred
3 and fifty-six Between Amos Underhill of the Town of Aurora in the County
4 of Erie in the State of New York of the first part and Deloss Underhill of the
5 same place of the second part Witnesseth: that the said party of the first part
6 in consideration of the sum of five hundred Dollars to him duly paid has sold
7 and by these presents does grant and convey to the said party of the second part
8 the equal undivided one half of all that certain piece or parcel of land Situate lying &
9 being in the town of Aurora. Known and distinguished as the East part of
10 lot number twenty one in said town Bounded as follows. East by lot number
11 thirteen twenty-one chains Seventy five links. South by lot number twenty
12 twenty-nine chains eighty three links. West by a line parallel to the last
13 bounds of said lot number twenty one twenty one chains seventy five links
14 and North by land conveyed by Deed to Bryan Hawley December 18th 1834
15 twenty nine chains eighty three links. containing Sixty five Acres
16 be the same more or less. With the appurtenances and all the estate title and
17 interest of the said party of the first part therein. And the said Amos Under-
18 hill does hereby covenant and agree that at the delivery hereof he is well

19 Siezed of the said premises of an estate in fee Simple therein. Also that
20 he has the power to sell and convey the same as hereby intended also that the
21 same is free from encumbrance. also that he will Warrant and Defend
22 the above granted premises in quiet and peaceable possession of the said party

Amos and Mary (Metcalf) Underhill are my fourth great-grandparents. They came to Erie County, New York before the War of 1812. This is not the first land that they owned in Erie County, New York. They bought this land in 1834. Deloss Underhill (1834-1864) was the oldest son of their son Cyrus Metcalf Underhill (1804-1841). The other half of this land was described in the deed transcribed last week in Amanuensis Monday - Post 210: 1860 Deed of Land from Amos Underhill to Delos Underhill in Aurora, Erie County, New York.
