Best of the Genea-Blogs - 16 to 22 March 2014

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  An Image Citation How-To by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogist blog.  Judy shows us how to add a source citation, or any text, to a digital image.

*  Motivation Monday - Genealogy Workshop with D. Joshua Taylor by Rosanna Ward on the Rosanna's Genealogical Thoughts blog.  Josh went to Tulsa for a seminar, and Rosanna wrote an excellent summary of the day.

*  Tuesday Tip:  Citing Sources vs. Starting an Archives? by Laura Cosgrove Lorenzana on The Last Leaf on This Branch blog.  Laura answers a reader's question about archiving material at a local library.

*  Yet Another Good Reason to Source Your Research by Beth Foulk on the Ah Ha Moments for Genealogists blog.  Beth's online tree is well-sourced, and she was rewarded for it.

*  The Last Name's The Thing by Rhonda McClure on the Vita Brevis blog.  Rhonda discusses her Boston University class experiences, and her hockey passion too.  They overlapped.

*  52 Ancestors Challenge: Week 11 Recap by Amy Johnson Crow on the No Story Too Small blog.  Amy's weekly recap has over 200 posts in it!  Amazing meme.

*  Proving the Parentage of Cynthia (Day) Bursley by Lauren Mahieu on the GeneJourneys blog.  Congratulations to Lauren and her DAR induction.  She used DNA, photos found in a cousin's tree and more to achieve this.

*  Finding an Ancestor in the Challenging Upper Canada Land Books by Lorine McGinnis Schulze on The Olive Tree Genealogy blog.  Lorine provides an excellent step-by-step of a very difficult research process.  I need to do this for my Ontario folks.

*  Week 10: Create a Legacy Plan by Mary V. Danielson on the Flip-Pal Blog.  Have you been thinking about your genealogy legacy?  Here's a plan!

*  Column -- Thought Process by Yvette Hoitink on the Dutch Genealogy blog.  Yvette describes how she works through a complex evidence problem.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1470 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
