1765 Birth Record of Aaron Smith (1765-1841) of Walpole, Mass. - Post #357 of Treasure Chest Thursday
It's Treasure Chest Thursday - time to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.
The treasure today is the 1765 birth record of Aaron Smith, son of Moses Smith and Patience Hamant in the vital record books of Walpole, Norfolk County, Massachusetts.
The Aaron Smith birth record is on the right-hand page:
The transcription of this record is:
"Aaron Smith the Son of Moses Smith & Patience his
wife was Born May the 29: 1765"
The source citation for this record is:
Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988, digital images, Ancestry.com (http://www.ancestry.com), Walpole > Births, Marriages and Deaths, page 81 (image 112 of 2213), Aaron Smith birth entry, 1765; citing original data from Massachusetts town and city clerk records in Jay and Delene Holbrook, Massachusetts Vital and Town Records (Provo, Utah : Holbrook Research Institute), Microfiche collection.
Aaron Smith (1765-1841) was the first of the four sons of Moses Smith (1732-1806) and his second wife, Patience (Hamant) Smith (1735-1780), of Walpole, Massachusetts. They were all given Biblical names - Aaron, Calvin, Luther and Timothy. Aaron and Calvin are the only sons that I have found who married and had children.
The town record provided above is certainly a transcription of an earlier town record, and therefore it is a Derivative Source record with Primary Information and Direct Evidence as to Aaron's name, birth date, birth place and parents names.
Aaron Smith married Mercy Plimpton (1772-1850) in 1795 in Medfield, Massachusetts, and they had 8 children between 1795 and 1815, including my ancestor Alpheus B. Smith (1802-1840). Aaron and Mercy (Plimpton) Smith are my 4th great-grandparents.
