Surname Saturday -- DAMMANT (England to colonial New England)

t's Surname Saturday, and I'm "counting down" my Ancestral Name List each week.

I am working in the 9th great-grandmothers by Ahnentafel number, and I am up to Ancestor #2209 who is Jane DAMMANT (1625-1680). [Note: the earlier great-grandmothers and 9th great-grandfathers have been covered in earlier posts.]

2208.  John Plimpton, born 1620 in Lincolnshire, England; died 19 September 1677 in Dedham, Norfolk, Massachusetts, United States.  He was the son of 4416. John Plumpton.  He married  13 March 1644 in Dedham, Norfolk, Massachusetts, United States.
2209.  Jane Dammant, born 1625 in probably Faversham, Kent, England; died 1680 in Dedham, Norfolk, Massachusetts, United States.

Children of John Plimpton and Jane Dammant are:
*  Hannah Plimpton (1645-1679), married (1) 1665 Nathaniel Sutcliffe (1643-1679); (2) 1677 Samuel Harrington (1645-1719).
*  John Plimpton (1646-1646).
*  Mary Plimpton (1648-1736), married 1671 Nathaniel Johnson (1640-1718).
John Plimpton (1649-1704), married (1) 1678 Elizabeth Fisher (1659-1694); (2) 1697 Sarah Turner (1663-1738).

4418.  Richard Dammant, born about 1596 in England; died about 1626 in Faversham, Kent, England.  He married before 1622 in England.
4419. Abigail LNU, born before 1600 in probably Faversham, Kent, England; died about 1658 in Dedham, Norfolk, Massachusetts, United States.

Children of Richard Dammant and Abigail LNU are:
*  John Dammant (1623-1708), married 1645 Abigail Sherman (1622-1713).
*  Jane Dammant (1625-1680), married 1644 John Plimpton (1620-1677); (2) 1680 Nicholas Hyde (1620-????).

The name was also called Damon in some records.  Jane, her brother, two step-siblings, her mother and her step-father John Eaton came to New England aboard the Elizabeth and Ann in 1635.
