Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 29 September 2019

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) General Meeting  with 19 in attendance.  Gary Brock presented the second part of his trip to Europe last year, in addition to highlighting his wife's ties to Charlemagne and earlier European monarchs.

2)  Moderated the San Diego Genealogical Society (SDGS) RootsMagic User's Group meeting on Saturday with 10 in attendance.  We reviewed the available RootsMagic 8 blog posts, the Facebook group for RootsMagic users, answered attendee questions about using alternate names, copy and pasting text into Notes, no-available-name issues, and other issues of interest.

3)  Watched one MyHeritage Live video - Gilad Japhet's Opening Session Keynote.

4)  Was a panelist on today's Mondays With Myrt.  The panel discussed Family Tree Maker 2019 new features; the WikiTree source-a-thon and Findmypast tree-to-tree hints; Docent duties at Museum of Springfield history; Liv's Norwegian family home photos; my Newton/Brigham DNA search; Pat Kuhn's Irish connection; Facebook groups for DNA matches; source citation workflow; transcriptions, abstracts and extracts.

5)  Wrote and posted a biography of 6th great-grandfather #508 Thomas Martin  (1737-1767) for my 52 Ancestors biographical sketch on Friday.

6)  Transcribed a 1764 deed of  5th great-grandfather Simon Gates buying land in Stow, Massachusetts from Joseph Brown for Amanuensis Monday.

7) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 32,750 of my RootsMagic persons with FSFT.

8)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 54,849 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 109,918 source citations.   I TreeShared twice this week updating 171 profiles, and I resolved 852 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 115,557 to be resolved, but I work on them weekly.

9)  Added several more ThruLines to DNA matches to my RootsMagic file.  Added Notes to about 10 AncestryDNA matches.  Tried out the new 23andMe family tree for DNA matches.

10) Wrote 21 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which three were a press release.  The most popular post last week was
New Collection on Ancestry.com - Newspapers.com Obituary Index, 1800s to Current with over 488 views.
