Treasure Chest Thursday - 1900 Mason Certificate of Henry Austin Carringer

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - a chance to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the 1900 Mason Certificate for my great-grandfather, Henry Austin Carringer (1853-1946) in San Diego:

The transcription of the certificate is:

To all Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons
Wheresoever Dispersed Around the Globe

This is to Certify that Brother  Henry Austin Carringer, whose signature
appears in the margin hereof, is a Master Mason in good standing, and was
until this date, a member of our     San Diego            Lodge, No.  35  ,
F.&A.M., under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of the State of California.
Having paid all dues, and being in good fellowship with the brethren, he
has voluntarily withdrawn from our said Lodge; and now, by its order, receives this
CERTIFICATE, recommending him to the friendship and good will of the
Fraternity, wherever he may be.
Given at the hall of our Lodge aforesaid, at    San Diego   ,
in the County of      San Diego   , in the State of Cali-
                              fornia, this  4^th  day of  August  , A. L. 589 ^5900^, as
witness my hand, the seal of our Lodge, and the attestation of
                              our Secretary.
                                                                                        W.E. Budlong
                                                                                                                  Master
       Attest:
                     E.T. Blackmer
                                              Secretary

The source citation for this record is:

"Free and Accepted Masons, San Diego Lodge No. 35," withdrawal certificate, 4 August 1900, San Diego, Calif, Henry Austin Carringer, Randall J. Seaver family history files, Chula Vista, Calif.

According to the San Diego Masonic Lodge No. 35 website, the Master for 1900 was William Edgell Budlong, who signed the certificate as W.E. Budlong.  So Henry Austin Carringer withdrew from the Lodge on 4 August 1900 for some reason, at the age of about 47.

My great-grandfather, Henry Austin Carringer (1853-1946), was the son of David Jackson and Rebecca (Spangler) Carringer.  He married Abbie Ardell Smith (1862-1944) in 1887 in Wano, Kansas and they came to San Diego by train on their honeymoon.  They had two sons, the only son who survived to adulthood was my grandfather, Lyle Lawrence Carringer (1891-1976).
