Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1667 Birth Record of Simon Gates (1667-1752) in Cambridge, Mass.

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - a chance to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the 1667 birth record of Simon Gates in the Cambridge, Massachusetts vital town record book:

The birth record for Simon Gates is near the middle of the page:

This record says:

""Simon, s. of Steeven and Sarah, June 5, 1666-7."

The source citation for this record is:

Thomas W. Baldwin (compiler), Vital Records of Cambridge, Massachusetts to the Year 1850 (Boston, Mass. : New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1915), Births, page 284, Simon Gates entry, 1667.

I don't know why this entry is double-dated.  If the June moth is correct, it probably should be 1667.

This record is a Derivative Source with Primary Information and Direct Evidence of the name of Simon Gates, his parents names, and the birth date and place.  The Original Source is a town record book birth register that is no longer available.  They are still Primary Information and Direct Evidence for the names and birth event.

Simon Gates (1667-1752) was the second child and second son of Stephen and Sarah (Woodward) Gates of Cambridge and Stow, Massachusetts.  He married Hannah Benjamin (1669-after 1752) on 4 May 1688 in Stow, Massachusetts, the daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Clarke) Benjamin of Yarmouth, Massachusetts.

Simon and Hannah (Benjamin) Gates are my 7th great-grandparents, through their son Amos Gates (1706-1783) who married Mary Hubbard (1712-1754) in Concord on 7 May 1732.
