Seavers in the News -- Nellie S. Seaver Dies in 1925 in Wisconsin

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Evening Star [Washington, DC] newspaper dated 13 March 1925:

The transcription of the article is:

"SEAVER.  Monday, March 9, 1925, at Keshena, Wis., NELLIE S., widow of George W., and mother of Blanche E., Gertrude L., Allace B. and William Earle, in her 81st year.  Funeral from the residence of her son, 705 Shepherd st., n.w., Saturday, March 14, at 10:30 a.m.  Friends invited.  Interment (private) at Glenwood Cemetery."

The source citation is:

Short and sweet.  All of the children and her deceased husband are named, funeral and interment are planned.  

I had Nellie in my RootsMagic family tree.  Ellen Sarah "Nellie" Lathrop was born on 30 March 1844 in Chelsea, Vermont, the adopted daughter of Chauncey and Sarah C. (Pickering) Lathrop.  She married George William Seaver (1844-1888) on 26 September 1867 in Newburyport, Massachusetts.  Nellie survived her husband for almost 37 years.

They had four children:

*  Blanche Ellen Seaver (1869-1929), married Harry Woodruff Johnson (1868-1945) in 1897 in Washington, D.C.

*  Alice Badger Seaver (1872-1962), married Lawrence Walton White (1872-1945) in 1901 in Washington, D.C.

*  Gertrude Louise Seaver (1876-1939), married Paul Finckel (1869-1957) in 1902 in Washington, D.C.

*  William Earle Seaver (1889-1953), married Edith Lillian Smith (1889-1950) in 1914 in Washington, D.C.

The children of George W. and Ellen (Lathrop) Seaver are my 7th cousins, 3 times removed.  

There are over 9,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and  sometimes it is a hidden life story. I am glad that I can honor Ellen Sarah "Nellie" (Lathrop) Seaver today.
