Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 18 October 2020

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Research Group Meeting on Zoom on Wednesday, with 19 in attendance.   We discussed Finding Your Roots on TV, Hank Jones' new book, the MyHeritage colorizing photos and making wall art, the "7 Generations in 1 Chart," the Norway Church Records, the free Irish BMD Certificates, the Reclaim the Records site, and Ancestry's "Newspapers.com Marriage Index" collection.

2)  Presented "Using BIG Collaborative Family Trees" to the Whittier Area Genealogical Society (WAGS) in a Zoom meeting on Saturday, with 31 in attendance.  We had a good discussion afterwards about genealogy software and family trees.

3)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt.  We discussed learning about history, the Virtual Nordic conference, wrong information in books, Myrt's Journal, and Vivid-Pix with Rick Voight,

4)  Watched one Family Tree Webinars video - Geo-Genealogy as a Problem-Solving Tool: The Case of a 19th-Century Female Teenage Immigrant by Jay Fonkert.

5)  Wrote and posted a biographical sketch of my 7th great-grandmother #563 Elizabeth (Pierce) (Whittemore) (Foster) Pierce (1646->1700) for my 52 Ancestors biographical sketch on Friday.

7)  Received the 6 Mixtiles wall art pieces made with MyHeritage colorized photo of six wedding photos of my ancestors, but haven't hung them up yet.

8)  Added Notes to 8 more AncestryDNA matches with cM values, relationships and known common ancestors.  Ancestry added 49 new DNA matches this past week.  I added 3 more ThruLines to my RootsMagic tree.  MyHeritage added 7 new DNA matches.   Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

9)  There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 38,007 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 112).

10)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 59,409 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 109), and 127,267 source citations (up 218).   I TreeShared with my Ancestry Member Tree twice this week updating 221 profiles, and I resolved 522 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 136,058 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

11)  Wrote 17 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which two were a press release.  The most popular post last week was Use MyHeritage Family Photos To Make Stunning Wall Art with Mixtiles  with over 492 views.

12)  We are still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much in Week 31 of COVID-19 isolation.  I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday, and it wasn't too busy.  We both had dentist visits to install new crowns.  Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing genealogy, eating, sleeping and a little yard work, watching the baseball playoff games, and I started another new crime fiction  book series on my laptop.
