Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 6 December 2020

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Board Meeting on Zoom on Wednesday.  I reported on the Research Group meeting, the DNA Interest Group meeting, and the Newsletter progress.

2)  Wrote, edited and published (via email to the members) the CVGS "Family History Gazette" Newsletter for December 2020.
3)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society (SDGS) DNA Interest Group meeting on Zoom on Saturday, led by Colin Whitney.  Kathy Fernandes presented "I Tested My DNA, now What?"

4)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt Zoom webinar.  We discussed Pearl Harbor Day, World War II memories, Bletchley Park, St. Nicholas and Santa Claus in Netherlands, Louis Kessler's blog post, Mayflower Society and DAR lineage societies and applications.

5)  Watched one webinar - Four ways DNA Painter can help with your family history research, by Jonny Perl - on Family Tree Webinars.

6)  Wrote and posted a biographical sketch of my 7th great-grandfather #572 Jabez Snow (1670-1750) of Eastham, Mass. for my 52 Ancestors biographical sketch on Friday.

7)  Transcribed a probate record in 1705 Will and Inventory of John Haughton (1647-1705) of New London, Connecticut for Amanuensis Monday today.

8)  Added Notes to 16 more AncestryDNA matches with cM values, relationships and known common ancestors.  Added the lines of 3 DNA matches with known common ancestors to RootsMagic.  Ancestry added 41 new DNA matches this past week, with no new ThruLines.  MyHeritage added 9 new DNA matches.   Reviewed the new DNA matches on  AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

9)  Finished the first draft of my Mayflower Society Worksheet Application which lists the proofs I have for each generation from William White to me.  I sent it in to the local Colony Assistant and she sent it on to the California Historian.  Now I need to obtain several of the proofs (like my own birth certificate!) and put them together for submission to GSMD.  This may take months!

10)  There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 39,139 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 116).

11)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 60,369 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 135), and 129,677 source citations (up 472).   I TreeShared with my Ancestry Member Tree twice this week updating 296 profiles, and I resolved 1,090 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 142,175 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily. On MyHeritage, I did not resolve any Record Matches, and have 143,818 to resolve.

12)  Wrote 17 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which three were a press release.  The most popular post last week was Dear Randy:  Why Do I Have So Few Known Common Ancestors in My DNA Matches? with over 337 views.

13)  We are still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much in Week 38 of COVID-19 isolation.  I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday, and it wasn't too busy.  Our church service went back to online worship only. Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing genealogy, eating, sleeping, a little yard work, watched the Chargers football game, and I started another new mystery fiction book on my laptop.

  1. Wow, I am stunned at how much you accomplished in a week! I was busy working on a variety of genealogy-related things, but my list of accomplishments is much shorter than yours. How do you manage this? Perhaps my question should be, "How do you keep from falling down deep rabbit holes that eat up all your time and attention?" There's just so much to learn, so much to discover! (I'm new to your blog. There's a wealth of information here!)
