GFO Celebrates 75th Anniversary with Virtual Open House

The Genealogical Forum of Oregon has hit a major milestone. We're 75 years old! Founded by three women in a living room in 1946, this all-volunteer non-profit has grown to become the largest genealogy library in the Pacific Northwest, with 51,000 holdings, more than 1,000 members, and a busy calendar of events for members and non-members alike.

In the past year, due to the pandemic, a team of dedicated volunteers moved more than 130 classes online and are now transferring tens of thousands of records onto the organization’s website.

During the GFO Virtual Open House March 27-April 3, the GFO is proud to offer  18 free classes to help people learn how to trace their family tree.

Of special note:

  • Sunday, March 28: Irish Day
  • Monday, March 29: Online Sources Day
  • Tuesday, March 30: DNA Day

GFO also hosts 16 groups for family history research, each with a specific focus, Many of these groups will provide presentations during the week.

For the full schedule, visit our website at gfo.org/openhouse
