Carringers in the News -- Rachel Carringer Weds Doyle Moye in 1945 in Tionesta, Pennsylvania

It's time for another edition of "Carringers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Carringer (my mother's maiden surname) that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Pittsburgh [Penn.] Post-Gazette newspaper dated 25 September 1945:

The transcription of this article is:

"Tionesta Wedding

"At a wedding service on September 16 in the Presbyterian Church at Tionesta, Pa., Miss Rachel Carringer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marion A. Carringer, and Lieutenant (jg) Doyle G. Moye, United States Naval Reserve, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Moye of St. Louis, Mo., were married.

"The Reverend Harold B. Taylor of the Presbyterian Church at East Brady, Pa., assisted by the Reverend Fred Bennett of the Presbyterian Church at Tionesta, officiated.

"The matron of honor was Mrs. Douglas Burt of Gulfport.

"The best man was Gray Henderson of Pittsburgh.

"The bride is a graduate of Bucknell University, class of 1941.  The bridegroom is a graduate of the University of Illinois."

This marriage article provides the names of the bride and groom, the  parents names of the bride and groom, the wedding date and location, and the education of the two parties.

Rachel Montgomery Carringer (1921-2011) was born 11 February 1921 in Tionesta, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Marion Aubrey and June (Herman) Carringer.  She died 12 May 2011 in Tionesta.  Doyle Glenn Moye was born 5 Aril 1918 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of James G. and Beatrice Mabel (Holland) Moye.  He died 20 September 1993 in St. Clair County, Illinois.  Rachel (Carringer) Moye married (2) Robert Andrew Hauth in February 1952.

Rachel Montgomery Carringer is my 3rd cousin 1x removed, with common ancestors of Martin and Magdalena (Hoax) Carringer.

There are hundreds of Carringer "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a newspaper article tells us something about the education of the bride and groom.  I am glad that I can honor Rachel Carringer and Doyle Moye today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
