Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 8 November 2021

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1) Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society Board Meeting on Wednesday on Zoom, and reported on the Newsletter, Research Group and DNA Interest Group activities.  Wrote, edited and emailed the November 2021 issue of the CVGS monthly newsletter, the Family History Gazette, to the society members.

2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group meeting on Saturday on Zoom, with Colin Whitney presenting information about DNA Painter.

3)  Watched two Family Tree Webinars - Diahan Southard's Investigative Genetic Genealogy – the Use of DNA for Law Enforcement, and Thomas MacEntee's Tech with Thomas.

5) Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt Zoom webinar. We discussed military service of our ancestors and relatives, mainly from World War I and World War II.  I shared my grandfather's service in 1917-191 in the U.S. Marines Reserve.

6) Transcribed a deed record in  Amanuensis Monday - 1772 Deed of Norman Sever Selling Land in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts to Abel Osgood.

7) Published a genealogy biography of 7th great-grandmother #627 Ruth (Collins) Graves (1685-1715) of Lynn, Massachusetts.

8) AncestryDNA added 34 new DNA matches this past week, with one new ThruLines, and MyHeritage added 16 new DNA matches. Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe. Added Notes to 3 more AncestryDNA match with cM values, relationships and known shared ancestors.

9) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 45,635 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 73).

10) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. The Ancestry TreeShare in RM8 does not work yet for my tree.  I now have 66,985 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 78), and 143,281 source citations (up 82). I did not TreeShare with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 843 Ancestry Hints. I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 156,645 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.  I resolved 69 MyHeritage record hints adding information to RootsMagic.

11) Wrote 19 Genea-Musings blog posts the past week, of which one was a press release. The most viewed post the past week was Disproving an AncestryDNA ThruLine with over 397 views.

12)  Finished reading Nathan Dylan Goodwin's latest book, The Foundlings, and really enjoyed it.

13) I am still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much after Week 86 of COVID-19 isolation. Linda is at a memory care and skilled nursing facility in Chula Vista 7 miles from home and I visit her for an hour every day. The physical therapists came twice last week and have her up and walking a bit with the walker. The Aztecs ad Chargers won their games. I went to the doctor on Monday and had an ECG, plus appointments for circulation-related tests.  I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing (mainly) genealogy, plus eating, sleeping, laundry, cleaning, cooking, watching TV news and sports, reading books, napping, and a little yard work.
