It's time for another edition of "Carringers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Carringer (my mother's maiden surname) that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.
This week's entry is from the San Diego [Calif.] Union newspaper dated 24 June 1977:
The transcription of the article is:
"Mrs. Emily Carringer
"Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the Old World Chapel at Cypress View Mortuary for Mrs. Emily K. Carringer, 77, of 825 Harbor View Place, a longtime county resident and a master judge of flower shows for the National council of State Gardens Club. Inurnment will follow in the mortuary mausoleum.
"Mrs. Carringer, who died Sunday in a hospital, was born in Illinois and came to San Diego 66 years ago. She was a member of the Point Loma Assembly, Ikebana International, the San Diego floral Association and the Flower Guild Arrangers of San Diego.
"Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Betty Seaver of San Diego; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren."

Emily Kemp Auble (1899-1977) was born 19 August 1899 in Chicago, Illinois, the only child of Charles and Georgianna (Kemp) Auble. She married Lyle Lawrence Carringer (1891-1976) on 19 June 1918 in San Diego, California. Their only child was Betty Virginia Carringer (1919-2002), who married Frederick Walton Seaver Jr. (1911-1983) on 14 June 1942. They had three sons.
Lyle and Emily are my beloved maternal grandparents - the only grandparents I saw throughout my life until they passed away. This article honors her with a few highlights of her life - I wish it had more!
