Best of the Genea-Blogs - Week of 6 to 12 October 2024

Scores of genealogy and family history bloggers write hundreds of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for most daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Genetic Networks, Part 5: Use Ancestry Pro Tools’ Enhanced Shared Matches by Rick T. Wilson on MyFamilyPattern.com.

*  Thoughts on the FamilySearch Research Wiki by James Tanner on Genealogy's Star.

*  Three Hurricanes and One Conference by Roberta Estes on DNAeXplaind - Genetic Genealogy.

*  Citations Made Easy with Genealogy Source Citations Simplified by Lisa Stokes on Family Locket.

*  7 Ways to Get the Most from Genealogy Documents (Part 1 of 2) by DiAnn Iamarino Ohana on Fortify Your Family Tree.

*  Named Fellow for the New Netherland Settlers project by Yvette Hoitink on Dutch Genealogy.

*  DNA Study by Marcia Crawford Philbrick on Heartland Genealogy.

*  Going Through Old Genealogy Papers Or Watch Out Ellen That’s A Genealogy Rabbit Hole by Ellen Thompson-Jennings on Hound On the Hunt.

*  Am I actually a Dutchman? by Jonny Perl on DNA Painter Blog.

*  Thoughts about Same-Name Research by Jenny on My Favorite Ancestor.

*  Podcast Episode 93: Plan and Write Your Family History with the Hybrid Genealogy Method - Interview with Kelly Mahoney by Denyse Allen on PA Ancestors.

*  A Huge Discovery with FamilySearch’s Full-Text Experiment by Melvin Collier on Roots Revealed.

*  Ask a Local Historian or Librarian About Your Brickwall Ancestor! by Marian B. Wood on Climbing My Family Tree.

*  From DNA Newbie to Gene Genius: My Journey with 'The Complete Guide to Family Tree DNA' by Amy Crooks on Untangled Family Roots.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

Friday’s Family History Finds by Linda Stufflebean on Empty Branches on the Family Tree.

Friday Fossicking 11th Oct 2024 by Crissouli on That Moment In Time.

*  This week’s crème de la crème — October 12, 2024 by Gail Dever on Genealogy a la Carte.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add the blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I currently am reading posts from over 900 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
