Best of the Genea-Blogs - 24 July to 30 July 2016

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  An Ancestor With An Alias Revisited by Melanie Frick on the Homestead Genealogical Research blog.  Melanie brings us up to date on her guy with two names.

*  How Did Our Ancestors Beat the Heat? by Esther on the MyHeritage blog.  An interesting article.

*  Try This Fun Genealogy Cemetery Hunt Game For Children by Lorine McGinnis Schulze on the Legacy News blog.  This is an excellent idea.

*  6 Military Records For Genealogy That You Might Not Know About by Jake Fletcher on the Legacy News blog.  Jake found some goodies!

*  Every Opportunity Counts by Peggy Clemens Lauritzen on the Always Anxiously Engaged blog.  Peggy shares her life story in education and genealogy.

*  Thoughts on "The Dash" by Diana Elder on the Family Locket blog.  Nice thoughts here!

*  Quick Tips for Breaking Through Your Genealogy Bricks Walls by Crista Cowan on the Ancestry.com Blog.  This video is outstanding.

*  Additional Relatives Added to Phased Family Matches at Family Tree DNA by Roberta J. Estes on the DNAeXplained - Genetic Genealogy blog.  Family Tree DNA has improved their matching.

*  Building Context for Our Farming Ancestors by Amy Johnson Crow on the Amy Johnson Crow blog.  Amy helps us understand our farmers.

*  Discovering Ireland - and Finding Myself by Susan Petersen on the LongLostRelatives.net blog.  Susan took the trip of a lifetime to Ireland.

*  Oh Susannah! Bentz Baker #genealogy by Jenine E. Trayer on the GraveDiggers Blog.  What a fascinating story and family history.  Well done!

*  Research Tips by Lori Samuelson on the Genealogy At Heart blog.  Lori has tips for research trips.

  1. Thanks for sharing our blog post "Thoughts on the Dash." I thought I would give my mother due credit - it was actually written by her (Diana Elder)!
