Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Female Ancestors Age at Death

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -
time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is your assignment if you choose to play along (cue the Mission Impossible music, please!):

1) Review your Pedigree Chart (either on paper or in your genealogy management software program) and determine the age at death of your female ancestors back at least five generations (and more if you want to).

2)  Tell us the lifespan years for each of these ancestors.  Which of your female ancestors in this group lived the longest?  Which lived the shortest?

3)  Share your results in your own blog post, in a comment to this post, or on Facebook or Google+.

Here's mine (I'm going to use ahnentafel numbers here):

Mother:
3.  Betty Virginia (Carringer) Seaver (1919-2002) - 82 years

Grandmothers:
5.  Alma Bessie (Richmond) Seaver (1882-1962) - 80 years
7.  Emily Kemp (Auble) Carringer (1899-1977) - 78 years.

Great-Grandmothers:
9.  Hattie Louisa (Hildreth) Seaver (1857-1920) - 63 years
11. Julia E. (White) Richmond (1848-1913) - 65 years
13.  Abbey Ardella (Smith) Carringer (1862-1944) - 82 years
15.  Georgianna (Kemp) Auble (1868-1952) - 84 years

2nd Great-Grandmothers:
17.  Lucretia Townsend (Smith) Seaver (1828-1884) - 56 years
19.  Sophia (Newton) Hildreth (1834-1923) - 89 years
21.  Hannah (Rich) Richmond (1824-1911) - 85 years
23.  Amy Frances (Oatley) White (1826-1864) - 38 years
25.  Rebecca (Spangler) Carringer (1831-1901) - 70 years
27.  Abigail A. (Vaux) Smith (1844-1931) - 87 years
29.  Sarah G. (Knapp) Auble (1818-after 1900) - over 82 years
31.  Mary Jane (Sovereen) Kemp (1840-1874) - 34 years

3rd Great-Grandmothers:
33.  Abigail (Gates) (Seaver) Seaver (1797-1870) - 73 years
35.  Elizabeth Horton (Dill) Smith (1791-1869) - 78 years
37.  Hannah (Sawtell) Hildreth (1789-1857) - 68 years
39.  Sophia (Buck) (Brigham) (Newton) Stone (1797-1882) - 85 years
41..  Ann (Marshman) Richman (1784-1856) - 72 years
43.  Rebecca (Hill) Rich (1790-1862) - 72 years
45.  Miranda (Wade) White (1804-1850) - 46 years
47.  Amy (Champlin) Oatley (1798-1865) - 67 years
49.  Sarah (Feather) Carringer (1804-1848) - 44 years
51.  Elizabeth (King) Spangler (1796-1863) - 67 years
53.  Mary (Bell) Smith (1805-1865) - 60 years
55.  Mary Ann (Underhill) Vaux (1815-1883) - 68 years
57.  Anna (Row) Auble (1787-1863) - 76 years
59.  Sarah (Cutter) Knapp (1785-1878) - 93 years
61.  Sarah Sephrona (Fletcher) Kemp (1802-before 1861) - less than 59 years
63.  Elizabeth (Putman) Sovereen (1818-1895) - 78 years

So in those five generations, the longest lived was probably Sarah (Cutter) Knapp, wife of William Knapp, of New Jersey, at 93 years.  The shortest lived was Mary Jane (Sovereen) Kemp, wife of Abraham James Kemp of Ontario, at 34 years.

The average for these 31 females is about 70 years.  The generation averages and age ranges are:

*  Generation 1 (mother) - 82 years
*  Generation 2 (grandmothers) - 79 years (range 78 to 80)
*  Generation 3 (great-grandmothers) - 73 years (range 63 to 84)
*  Generation 4 (2nd great-grandmothers) - 68 years (range 34 to 89)
*  Generation 5 (3rd great-grandmothers) - 69 years (range 44 to 93)

  2. Mission accepted and accomplished! :-) I don't have ages for five of my third great-grandmothers, but the average age at death for the other 26 female ancestors in these five generations is about 73, with a range of 32-92.

  6. I read the people who participated in the challenge posts and every one did a nice job. I was not able to figure out how to comment on every one's but left comments where I could. It is interesting the generational trends as far as life span for women.

  11. No blog of my own, so I'll post here. Too many unknown ages so I won't bother with averages or extremes, but it does look like I come from some pretty hardy stock!

    Most of the longer-ago relatives were researched by others, and I haven't yet verified their work (concentrating on the closer-in road blocks) so no guarantees!
