Monday Genea-Pourri - 21 January 2019

Here is a summary of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Moderated the CVGS DNA Interest Group meeting on Wednesday with 17 in attendance.  I highlighted  using 23andMe to find the ethnicity estimate; the DNA matches list; the In Common With matches for a specific DNA match; the shared DNA chart; and the chromosome browser for a number of persons; and downloading the DNA segment match list and creating a spreadsheet to order the segments by chromosome number and starting location to triangulate known DNA matches with other match persons.  In the second hour, I demonstrated the Genetic Affairs AutoCluster tool for my AncestryDNA results, ending up in a spreadsheet by cluster with known relationships and common ancestors.

2)  Transcribed another deed for Amanuensis Monday - 1797 Deed of Jacob Batchelor to Zachariah Hildreth in Townsend, Mass.  I have several more to do in this series.

3)  Watched one Family Tree Webinar this past week - Visualizing Information for Genealogists, by Margaret Fortier.  Also watched one Virtual Genealogical Society webinar - Locating Livings Relatives - Why, Where and How, by Katherine Willson.

4)  Investigated the American AncesTREES family tree setup on AmericanAncestors in AmericanAncestors Introduces American AncesTREES - Part I.  I created an updated GEDCOM file in RootsMagic, and need to upload it to AmericanAncesTREES.

5) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and other ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 28,914 of my RM persons with FSFT.

6)  I continue to use Web Hints from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 52,105 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 100,487 source citations.   I TreeShared three times during the last week (about 280 profiles), and resolved about 800 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 91,892 waiting to be resolved, but I work on them weekly.

7)  I decided to cover the DNA statistics monthly rather than weekly in my Genea-Pourri post.

8) Wrote 18 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which one was a press release.  The most popular post last week was Dear Ancestry.com: Are You Fixing These Problems?  with over 16,430 views.
