Seavers in the News -- Dr. R.N. Seaver Dies in 1905 in Corry, Penn.

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Evening Republican [Meadville, Penn.] newspaper dated 13 April 1905:

The transcription of the article is:

"Death of Dr. R.N. Seaver.
Dr. R.N. Seaver, who was at one time principal of the Cochranton schools, died suddenly at his home in Corry, Monday, April 3, from apoplexy.  Dr. Seaver was born at Sinclairville, N.Y., May 10, 1846.  He studied medicine at Meadville and Cleveland, and was a practicing physician at Columbus, Pa., for many years, where Dr. R.C. Clarke, of Cochranton, was associated with him after completing his medical course.  Removing to Corry in 1893, he became one of that city's prominent citizens, serving one term as mayor.  He enjoyed a large practice and was very charitable, contributing a goodly share of his means for the support of needy families.  He is survived by his widow, three sisters and one brother.  Many Meadville friends will be grieved to hear of his death."

The source citation for the article is:

"Death of Dr. R.N. SeaverThe Evening Republican [Meadville, Penn.] newspaper, obituary, Thursday, 13 April 1905, page 1, column 4, Dr. R.N. Seaver obituary;   Newspapers.com   (https://www.newspapers.com : accessed 29 August 2019).

This obituary does not name any of his relatives, but notes that he has a wife, three sisters and a brother.  It does list his cause of death, place of death, birth date and birth place.  Apparently, there were no living children.

Randolph Nelson Seaver (1846-1905) was the son of Randolph Washington and Matilda (Fox) Seaver of Charlotte, New York.  He married Nellie E. Bracken (1859-1939) in about 1881, and they had no children.

There are over 8,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - this was one of them.  Dr. R.N. Seaver served his communities well, according to this obituary, and died suddenly at age 59.  Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes it is noble and good.
