Thomas Goble (1656-1724) is number 526 on my Ahnentafel List, my 7th great-grandfather, who married #527 Sarah Shepard (1658-1746) in 1687 in Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.

Thomas (3) Goble was the third man to bear the name in Massachusetts, born 21 May 1656 in Concord, Massachusetts, the first child of Thomas (2) and Ruth (--?--) Goble[1].
He married Sarah Shepard on 4 January 1686/7 in Concord, Massachusetts[1-2]. She was the daughter of John and Sarah (Goble) Shepard who resided in Concord after their marriage. Sarah was Thomas Goble's first cousin. Their marriage record in the Concord town record book[2] says:
"Thomas Goble and Sarah Shepard, both of Concord, Marryed January y^e 4th 1686. by me Edward Bulkely Minister of Concord."
Thomas (3) and Sarah (Shepard) Goble had six children, all born and recorded in Concord. They were:
* Sarah Goble (1692-1728) married 1715 William Wood (1687-1733).
* Mary Goble (1694-1734) married 1715 John Fletcher (1692-????).
* Stephen Goble (1694-????).
* John Goble (1696-????).
* Abigail Goble (1697-1723), married 1722 Joseph Harris (1693-????).
* Thomas Goble (before 1714-1714).
His father, Thomas (2) Goble, died on 22 November 1690 in Concord, but the estate was not settled until 1732[3]. In 1691, an agreement was made by the heirs to divide the property and was signed by his widow and children. The agreement stated that, in part:
"Widow Mary Goble shall enjoy the use and improvement of the land and property of the estate of Thomas Goble while she lived, with the exceptions noted below. After her decease, all of the property will be split with Thomas Goble receiving two shares, and Joseph Deny, Samuel Stratton and Abigail Goble would receive one share. The property would be inventoried at the time of her death and distributed by share value.
"Thomas Goble was granted the use of seven acres of broken up land in Concord (bounded by land of his uncle Daniel Davis, his late father's land, and the highway) and one half of the meadow not far from the river on the southwest side of the brook."
Thomas(3) Goble died on 24 March 1724 in Concord[1,4]. The record in the town record book says:
"Thomas Goble Husband to Sarah his wife died March y^e 10th: day 1723/4."
There are no known burial records for Thomas(3) Goble.
Thomas(3) Goble died intestate, without making a will. His estate was probated, with the papers collected in Middlesex County Probate Records, Packet 9,238[5]. The records show:
a) William Wood, housewright and Edward Flint, yeoman, both of Concord, were appointed administrators of the estate of Thomas Goble of Concord on 20 July 1724.
b) An inventory of the real and personal estate of Thomas Goble, late of Concord, was taken 10 April 1724 by John Flint, Daniel Whitaker and Edward Flint. The real estate, totalling about 150 pounds, included:
** about seven acres of plow land and pasture land (40 pounds),** about 45 acres of woodland at a place called the Plains (95 pounds),** about six acres of meadow near the Great River (15 pounds),
c) The personal estate was 66 pounds and 12 shillings. The inventory totalled 216 pounds and 12 shillings, and was accepted by the Probate court on 20 April 1724.
d) Thomas Goble made a nuncupative will before he died, but the Probate Court did not allow it on 26 September 1724. The judge did order that 38 pounds and 15 shillings be paid to the widow based on the bequest in the will. The administrator was directed to proceed with his work.
e) On 5 May 1727, Probate Judge Jonathan Remington directed that William Wood, and all heirs at law, appear at his house in Cambridge on 19 May 1727 at noon to render an account of his administration on the estate of Thomas Goble of Concord. William Wood filed his account on 19 May 1727, charging himself with the estate, which by inventory totalled 150 pounds of real estate and 66 pounds, 12 shillings of personal estate. The account showed expenditures of 72 pounds, 14 shillings and 3 pence, which included the 38 pounds and 15 shillings that was paid previously to the widow.
f) On 14 August 1727, the Judge appointed John Flint, William Wilson, Samuel Chandler, Joseph Dakin and Samuel Hayward, all of Concord, as a committee to make an inventory and divide the real estate among the heirs, ensuring that the widow Sarah, by now the wife of Nathaniel Whitney, received her full third part of the estate for her dower for the rest of her natural life, so that confusion may be prevented upon reversion of the dower. The two thirds residue were to be divided as the heirs at law agreed, or as the committee's good discretion thought fit.
g) The division amongst the heirs was reported to the Court on 19 October 1728. The estate was divided as follows:
** The widow Sarah Goble received two and a half acres and 15 rods of pasture land in Goble's Plain, two acres of meadow land in Brod meadow, and 11 acres of woodland in Goble's Plain, for a total value of 55 pounds 13 shillings and 4 pence.** Mary Fletcher and the heirs of Sarah Wood, the two daughters of the deceased, received two and a half acres and a few rods of pasture land, two acres and 54 rods of meadow land, and 18 and three quarters acres of land in Goble's Plain, for a total of 74 pounds, 4 shillings, 5 pence.** The heirs of Abigail Harris received one and a half acres of pasture land, one acre and 26 rods of meadow land, and 8 and three quarters acres of landi n Goble's Plain, for a total of 37 pounds, 2 shillings, 2 pence.
h) The division was signed by William Wood, Joseph Harris, and John Fletcher, the three sons-in-law. The Probate Court closed the file on 14 February 1731/2.
After the death of his father (Thomas(2) Goble (1631-1690)), his father's estate was not distributed until after the death of his father's widow, Mary (--?--) Goble (????-1732?). The estate was administered, the estate valued, and articles of distribution were drawn up in July 1732. In the distribution approved by the Probate Court on 18 September 1732, son Thomas(3) Goble and his heirs were given:
"To Thomas Goble, son of the deceased, 10 acres and 17 rods of the house lot, nine acres adjoining to the west end of the house lot (called 7 acres in the agreement); valued at 171 pounds, 17 shillings. Also 5 acres and 136 rods of meadow and 7 acres and 50 rods called the Gutt, valued at 43 pounds, 10 shillings. Also 50 acres and 135 rods lying on The Plain formerly in the possession of Thomas Goble junior, valued at 152 pounds, 5 shillings; also 21 acres and 38 rods of the lot called the Point, valued at 31 pounds, 5 shillings, and 4 pence; also one third part of the Island, being 11 acres and six rods, valued at 44 pounds; also the 1/61st part of the right in Concord village and town's New Grant, valued at 40 pounds; also a personal estate valued at 4 pounds, 13 shillings."
