Tombstone Tuesday -- Amos Plimpton (1735-1808) in Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield, Mass.

I have collected a number of gravestone photographs from my own camera and from Find A Grave memorials over many years, and thought I would share them one at a time for Tombstone Tuesday.

Here is the gravestone of my 5th great-grandfather, Amos Plimpton (1735-1808) in Vine Lake Cemetery in Medfield, Massachusetts:

The inscription from the photograph is:

In Memory of 

Mr. Amos Plimpton.

Died August 20th 1808

Aged 73

How peaceful are our slumbers here,

No cares disturb our rest,

In vain shall death alarm our fear,

Since Christ the grave hath blest.

Amos Plimpton (1735-1808) and Mary Guild (1735-1800) are my 5th great-grandparents.   Amos was the son of John Plimpton (1708-1756) and Abigail Fisher (1711-1785). Mary was the daughter of Nathaniel Guild (1712-1796) and Mary Boyden (1708-1776).  Amos and Mary married in 1756 in Walpole Mass., and had 5 children, including Mercy Plimpton (1772-1850), my 4th great-grandmother, who married Aaron Smith 1765-1842) in 1795.
